Check your fax and clear it. I am trying to send you the 71 GS order sheet. I suspect they think that because the L 74 is described as "high performance" 455 engine that it must be a stage 1. In fact high performance are the words used on the A 9 option which is non stage 1. The stage 1 sales code option in 71 was A 1 which says "high performance modified 455 cu.in.engine "

    72stage2,
Well, I wish I had found this thread before I bought the car!! My Dad lives in Spokane and he had my Mother bid on the car for me since he wasn't in town at the time. My Dad and I were under the impression that it was a factory Stage 1 and we were bidding on it accordingly. (The VERY thing that you were trying to prevent 72stage2!! Sorry!) Obviously we know now that it isn't a factory Stage 1 but my Mother didn't really know what to look for. My Dad (Rod Jones) is now in the process of trying to get into contact with the other bidders that were at the auction to see if they would like to buy it from us for the same price that we bought it for (16K!) and for what it truly is (A rare factory four speed 71' GS 455). 72stage2 if you are interested please give my dad a call at (509)921-6605 (Home#) or on his cell phone# (509)994-2151 We are not trying to make any sort of profit on the vehicle but would just would like to offer it to the other bidders that were at the auction for what we aqquired the vehicle for. If not, we will sell it by other means but we wanted to give first dibs to the original bidders that were at the auction. Thanks!
    Regards, Casey Jones

Post some pictures of it.. I don't think you will have any problem getting rid of it for that price.. What kind of shape is it in? If you can't get rid of it here.. Ebay it.. Randy

We would like to get into contact with 72stage2 first and give him first chance at the car but if he does not want it anymore then we definately post some pics on this thread and offer it to the other members on this forum! Thanks!

I believe Kirk-72stage2-was at the auction. I sent my wife up there to take a look at it and they both just watched the bidding. It is a rare car, 1 of 103 4 speeds. More rare than a Stage 1, but I know what you mean by wanting a Stage 1.:TU: :TU: Good luck with this.

If the auction house mis represented it, you have no obligation to consumate the deal. I bet you could probably file a lawsuit against the auction house. Black letter contract law right Jim?

Did you enter your bid before or after they classified it as "undocumented"?

    Wow.

I cannot believe the owner blatantly misrepresented his documented L74 car as an L75 car. That is fraud.

A '71 455-4 speed is still a very cool car, outside of the misrepresentation.

Marco I"am with you!!!!!! I tried to show the auctioneer it was right there in black and white and he said I don"t give a flying f#*# if it is or isn"t. I"am selling the car as a455 4speed and we don"t know if it is or isn"t bottm line!!!! At that point I threw my hands up because I knew he was"t going to listen to any thing I had to say or look at the docs. And the rest is history!!!!! Kirk

Yep -- That is the car. Here is my description: 1971 GS, 455 CI, 4-sp, positraction , power disc brakes, A/C car. Also rear window defrost, woodgrain dash, front & rear arm rests, rally steering wheel. Everything you see in the pics with the exception of Stage 1 badges is on the build sheet. 72 Stage 2 believes the engine to be a 72 - 455. All drive train is very tight and sound. Complete front end rebuild w/ poly bushings. New shocks all around. All new ball joints and tie-rod ends. New exhaust. Very, very excellent orig interior. Body and frame is totally sound with the following exceptions--lower fender area behind front wheels - mild rust. Will need probably 3 inches of metal replaced on L, R is less, rear is very slight--may not need to replace any metal --below rear window. I would say is moderate because I hate rust. A lot of people would't even see it, but the fix is never cheap. All floors are sound. All electronics and gages work. Radio replaced with CD - no holes cut or extra speakers. Original shifter will be reinstalled today. This car is 1 of 20 455 4sps produced in Fremont. Address any questions or offers to Rod Jones - 509-921-6605 or 509-994-2151. Car is in Spokane Wa.

    Regards, Rod

Even if its not a real Stage 1, a fire red 455 4 speed in decent shape for 16k is a good deal. I bet if you did a few things and trashed the 1980's Cragar SST's, you could make a few bucks on it.
