Transmission in my 66 started to act like it was slipping, so I had the adjustment on the outside of the transmission tightened up per specs in manual. Still slipping. Mechanic friend said once it starts slipping its time for a rebuild, Went to a local shop and was quoted $4,000.00 for a rebuild. Lost my mind, told him if he didn't want the business just to say so, not something as ridiculous as a $4,000.00 quote without even looking at the car. So my options are reduced by one now. My son found a shop over in Mississippi run by a father and son that may be able to do the work, Father is older and knows old cars So, I now need to know where is a good source for all the parts necessary for the rebuild, clutches, seals etc? The shop we are looking at said to have all the hard parts in hand before they start the job. Any help would be appreciated
Here are a few sources. First one (Oregon) has all the parts including the band, filter, modulator and steels. Second (ClassicBuicks) has separate listings for some parts. Third (transmissionpartsdistributors) has seals, gaskets VB plate and clutches. Last (tpocr) has individual parts, hard parts. Pump is most important if yours is out of spec. Otherwise you may buy parts you do not need, or find the ones you do are listed on a site, but not actually available. This will save you from the possibility of the job getting pushed aside and taking forever to get finished, costing more than you thought at first, or worse, a shop closing, or your parts getting lost. I wish I was not in the middle of moving halfway across the country, or I would be happy to help with this.

Same here, any failing 2 speed got replaced by a cheap, tough, better performing, readily available TH400. Bruce Roe
Dang Gary, that is flat out ridiculous. My son has a ST300 in his 68 Skylark. He blew it up and we brought it to our transmission guy. He took it apart and said, well you certainly burned this one up really well! In my shed I had another one from a car I stripped down years ago. (I believe it is a 5 clutch instead of 4 clutch?) Our transmission guy rebuilt it for $300 plus parts that he got locally. My son also added in a 3000 stall converter. That sucker is a blast, and it was cheap. There has to be someone that can do you a deal. Hopefully the shop your son found.
Bruno, thanks for the offer. I'm dealing with non-buick people so i need to know if a 400 is a bolt in for the 200? Also, guess I'm a little slow but I havent figures out the PM business, did it once, but can't remember how, so send me a pm with price and estimated shipping to 70435 with torque converter. And, this is not a rush job.
Not in my skillset. Automatic transmissions are best repaired by those in the "black arts" as no normal person could ever figure out how they work. Guys who repair the automatics have always had my respect!
Again, I have to outsource this to a shop and I'm fairly sure they don' want to be bothered with all the kickdown and carb linkage issues associated with either of these transmissions.

Also there is nothing complicated about a TH350 or a 2004r from a pro Transmission guys point of view.
All is good. Bought a place in Arkansas. Puts me closer to my little brother (He is in Wichita KS) and now more racin' before all the tracks shutdown. If you go to MoKan, you may have seen him. (he puts other guys' cars on trailers faster than anyone I have seen) Next time he is going to MoKan, I'll let you know and we can meet up! And it only ads 30 minutes to Bowling Green drive. LOL
