I would like to get a set of correct appearing "Springring" battery cables for my 70 GSX. Can someone tell me where to get them from and what length or part number I should order?

    Thanks!!

    Jim,

Thanks for coming to the rescue....again.

I checked each of the links and it's stunning that YO charges $45.95 and when checking the M&H site they sell them for $32.50.

It pays to shop around a bit, and to have resources like this site to ask questions and get guidance.

    Again, thanks!

The bad news is that M & H is in Cal but YO gets a premium for its shipping.

www.lectriclimited.com has my vote... Got a nice set of spring-rings for the 70' Skylark a while back. Nice quality.

They also reproduce date coded spark plug cables... have a set of those on the 73' Electra. They make repro. T3 headlights too, brighter than the originals.

Only down side is repro units do not have plastic block on cable so you need to saw off an original so it can be fitted on new positive cable. It is a pain.

What is this "plastic block" that you mention? I do not have correct cables on my car currently and want to be as original as I can. Can you post a picture of the plastic block?

    Thanks!

The plastic block is at the bottom of the engine where the positive cable passes by the block on its way to the starter. It protects the cable from heat.

I haven't checked into this yet but can right now since the engine is out. Depending on how the cable end is attached (soldered on for instance) you could melt off the end, slip the cable through the block and then re-attach the end.

Anyone have an old cable with the block on it that they would sell me? I now need one of the blocks to put on the new cables I ordered from M&H today.

    Thanks...

M&H will install the block on the cable for you if you send it to them. I had them install the plastic block on the positive cable for a 72 Stage 1 last year. This was a result of TimR working with them to repro the battery cables for the 72 GS455's. Do a search and you should find a thread on it. M&H was outstanding to work with. Darren Grove is the contact person. PH# 562-926-9552.

You can also install the block by splitting it at the top and placing it in the block. Once installed with the metal bracket, it looks stock.

    Hope that helps.

If you do it yourself you do neeed to split it. Sliping it through the end does not work.

I got mine off with a little Yankee ingenuity. :Smarty:

I cut the cable off so only a couple inches stuck out on both sides.. Shorted it across a battery until it started to smoke a bit and then yanked the cable out. :puzzled:

    Slid out like buttar..:pp :pp
