Took the wagon out for a ride to my local steel shop yesterday heading out Rt 120 towards McHenry which is a pretty open 4 lane road. I passed Volo Auto museum on my way, and a gorgeous 62 Vette convert is pulling out. He catches up to me in a hurry. Top down in 55 degree weather, no plates, and the driver and passenger looking like they escaped from a country club. I'm figuring he just bought it. We are rolling next to each other around 60 or so and he downshifts and woods it. I am not really paying attention, and let him go. At the next red light he is sitting their when I come rolling up. He looks over and he and his passenger laugh and point at the wagon. Now remember, these guys are in there 60's. That was enough for me. Waited for a green, and just went for it. The wagon lately just hooks hard. I had him by 3 cars at my first shift, and I just kept walking away. I got out of it going into 3rd when I was pretty far ahead of him. He stayed back a couple of car lengths and just cruised with me into town where I turned off, and gave him a honk and a wave. I just thought how ironic it is to buy a restored Vette, be on top of the world, and get beat by a 2 ton station wagon all in the same day. Tony
Awesome kill, Tony! I bet it ruined their day getting beat by a big 'ole wagon while they are driving a lightweight "sportscar". :TU:
Good thing you guys didnt race on the e-way.....the turbulence form the wagon GOING PAST the Vette would have done some damage....some one could have lost a toupe!! :3gears: And the race! I love grocery getters that you have to literally secure the groceries so they dont end up plastered against the back window!!!
I know what you mean about vehicles having specific purposes. The wagon is primarily a people/ stuff mover, and what I used to haul my boat and car trailer. Tony
nice Tony :TU: I had the opportunity to do nearly the same thing on halfday road a few weeks back. Couple of distinguished ascot wearing country clubbers in a C5 snickering at the dawagon while waiting for the green light........ they didnt know what hit em, we stayed into it hard to about 75 and they coundnt get past the rear bumper. next time I think they will show some respect when they line up against an old Buick with a hood scoop uzzled: Dont ya just love a big block wagon :Brow: :3gears: D.
Awesome kill. Did you start at the stop lights with a shell gas station on the right? You were about 2 miles away from me when that happened, I live in McHenry, If you go down rt.120 through Mchenry by Volo, I wouldn't speed, I usually see coppers.
