There was a guy a few weeks ago selling a spin-on oil filter adapter kit for the '55. Anyone know who he was or if anyone else has them for sale? I want to get one. THanks, Matt
If this is the guy from Minnesota on ebay, I put one on my 56 Special. Haven't had any problems. A little tricky to put on even though it is a simple device, plate- adapter bolt- gasket. But the instructions were very detailed and good. I would recommend cold fitting everything berfore final assembly to make sure you get smooth fitment before you apply the RTV at final assembly. I had a little rubbing of the plate against the old filter housing so had to guess when it was tight enough per the specs. Way better than the old cannister type and you can put on a pretty big spin on filter. I used a Fram pf 11 on mine and I know I'm getting much better filtration than before. HE has a web site so you can get some more details on the installation.

His ebay profile name is d500dave. I just bought one of these adapters last month for $56.00, but havent put it on yet.
Like I said above, recommend dry fitting all the parts to make sure they go together easy. I had a little tightness between the plate OD and the old filter housing lip. Already had the sealant applied to had to continue before it dried. Would have filed a little off the OD of the new plate if had to do over. I did screw the new plate on and off the new center tube a few times until I got a nice free turning fit. Also I did screw the center tube into the old filter bolt hole a few times to get a free turning fit there too. You know how it is, would have been easier the second time I did it. Did need a crow foot to make the final tightening of the center tube. It hasn't leaked yet after a few hundred miles. Correction to above post, I used a Fram PH 11 filter. Took the plate and tube down to an Auto Zone and tried the filters for size and fit and got the biggest one I thought would work. Good luck.
