Speedometer does not work. Cable is new. Pulled gear from transmission (4 speed) and manually made the speedometer work. Put unit back in and no workie. I can only think that the gear is not being pushed in to the shaft gear. Is there a locking piece that holds the gear further into the shaft? Thanks frank

I have a m20 and there is no lock the plastic driven gear just goes in and is held in by the bullet. Pull that gear and see if you have teeth still. If not then maybe is wasn't lined up on the gear or something worse. Depending on your tranny your driven gear could be a steel or plastic gear. I think steel through 68, plastic afterwards(atleast m20's). That driven gear could not be in the wrong spot or the teeth could be messed up. I had a steel gear like that, it chewed up all the plastic driven gears and we had to drop tranny to fix. I would pull the cable out of the casing to make sure its ok as well before going further. Hope this helps.
