has anyone ran the kb wildcat intake. i am going to build a 455 that hopefully will run high 11s. and be still streetable. i just didnt know if i should run the sp1 or wildcat. i dont know if the wilcat has ac bracket holes. i think the ac bracket bolts to the intake. i have a 350. going to pick up a 455/400 the end of this month. i aws going to go offy dual quad but decided against it after talcking with you guys thanks for the help

I have a KB Wildcat but have not run it yet. I personally like it better than the SP1. I think the SP1 is a better intake to about 5500 but the Wildcat pulls a little harder up top from what I'm told. The new SP1's out now are MUCH better than the previous ones offered. The runners are cleaned up and are more equalized. I like the Wildcat simply because it runs a little cooler hence the name. The SP1 is a great buy and from what I gather, the new SPX(new version of the Wildcat) will be better also and cost about $100 more. If you can find a Wildcat don't part with it.
After JW got thru with it, it looks like a million bucks.

Are you going to keep the AC then? You might want to stick with a dual-plane design like the B4B, Performer, or Poston S-divider for streetability. Not saying that the AC won't bolt to the single-plane design (don't even know). But I know they are much more streetable, especially down low where a street-driven AC car is likely to spend a lot of time. Single-planes like SP-1 and wildcat cool-runner are great with bigger cams, higher comp, lower rearend gears, ported irons (or the new alloys).

Its only MAYBE 20-30 HP difference.

Its all about sacrifices and compromises.

    Just my lowly .02 opinion,

    Jeff

i want a fully trimed runner. if i want to take a ride to the store i want a/c. i live in a very humid climate. i am tired of beefing up cars ripping out the a/c and sweating to death.

I hear you LOUD AND CLEAR! I don't blame you for wanting this, especially out of a Buick!:Brow: "Go fast with class"!! Depending on the combo you choose, I think a B4B would be the best/easiest considering a few things. But after looking at my SP1, I think that there is a provision for bolting the top AC bracket to the manifold.

I LOVE my SP1! Now anyways. I had a considerable amount of work done to it cleaning up the casting flash that was everywhere inside the plenum and runners, equalizing the runners, and port matching to my heads. Best $30 I've ever spent!!  My head porter quoted me that price sight unseen, then grumbled that he spent 6 hours fixing it. But he insisted on sticking to his original quote!:Dou: :Do No: $5 per hr!!:ball:

I'm going to go out on a limb and say if you follow generally accepted combos, 3.73 gears and taller, pick B4B if you can find one. 3.73 and lower, look at T/A's new SPX and save yourself the grief that I went thru fixing the SP1. I don't think the Wildcat Cool Runner has provisions for that one bolt + it is more for the upper RPM racers w/o AC, in my opinion.

But I could be wrong:Do No:

I've both the KB and the SP1. I personlly like the Cool Runner (KB) better. I'm also running AC on the car...... It's never chucked a belt spinning up to 6k :Brow:

You won't loose as much around town power as you would think with a single plan....... especaily where the 455 has so much to give up  It's actually a very drivable intake. I'm very impressed. Personaly I thank that's why they are so hard to find.... no body want's to give theirs up.

You won't have any problems with the New SP-1 like Grant had. Depending on what vintage it is, there could have been a lot of work needed, or just a little.

The new one is much cleaner, you can litterally take it out of the box, and put it on.

I have all three generations in the shop here, and there is a huge improvement in the ones TA is selling now.

Unless you get too big on the cam, you won't have any problem with a single plane manifold. Keeping the cam in the low 230's with the @.50 duration will make a very driveable combo, with a mid 3 series gear and a 2500 stall converter.

If you do a search on this board, for a thread tittled "The new SP-1 is here" you can see pics of one, compared to an earlier generation.

    JW,

Is there any issues with bolting the top AC bracket bracket to ANY of the aftermarket intakes?

    Yes,

I have a wildcat here that does not have the bolt hole for that bracket. If you look at the pic that Reynold posted, you will see that his manifold does not have it either. Not sure if that is true of every Wildcat that KB/Olliver did, as I have not seen every one.

I think Mike told me that they put that hole back in the new version of the manifold, now known as the SPX, but you should call out to TA to confirm that.

The biggest problem you will have in getting that bolt in, is if you zero deck the block, and cut everything to line it back up.. the horizontal postion is still ok, but you need to add a spacer between the bracket and bolt.. I have ran into that a few times, but it's no big deal.
