Gotya didn't I, you were thinking I'd be saying put an SBC or an LS1 in there wheren't you? Nope, still Buick, but it is a V8. Its all in my head but I can't help share these ideas sometime. Engine: Aluminum V8 Block: Rover 4.0L (3.700" bore) Crank: Buick 300 (3.400" stroke) Rods: 2.0" journal, 5.7" long SBC rods Pistons: Custom 8.7:1 forged, 1.550" compression height, -23.5cc dome Heads: Ported '64 Buick 300 heads, Volvo valves Intake: Rover EFI base, custom tubular upper Headers: Custom coated mildsteel Turbos: Probably twin stock GN units or simular EFI system: LS1 MAF system, single throttlebody and MAF Transmission: 4L60E, upgraded of course What do ya'll think?
Rover V/8 Class When I was stationed in England (Airforce) I went to Santa Pod raceway alot. They had special classes set up for Rover powered vehicles only and some of them really ran fast numbers. The only difference I see between there vehicles and a GN is weight. I don't know how much speed equipment is available here in the states but plenty was available over there. It would be different and interesting for someone to try and make one of these engines run a good number in what ever car they choose to try it in. It would of course be best to try it in a Buick type vehicle. My two cents worth! :Comp:
That sounds flat out insane! How are you going to find those rare aluminum 1964 300 heads? I've got an old 300 block on my brother's property if you want a crank super cheap. That motor came out of a 67 Special with a bad rod knock, but the motor has sat outside for about 5 years. I'd think it would be close to junk.....
yeah, I'm betting that crank would have to be machined and I want a standard bearing one for durability. I'm honestly thinking about selling off my 4.1L V6 turbo project and doing this for my Riv now. Afterall there is no replacment for displacement.
Well, I wouldn't rule it out just yet. The next time I'm over my brother's farm I'll try and locate that motor and check it out.
