Well, Rod got the motor completely tore apart and found nothing wrong. The oil problem is a mystery. For the oil pressure to drop by more than half you would think something is going to stick out like a sore thumb. Rod has almost got it back together and the plan is to change the spring in the oil pump and see what happens. That is the last thing that could be wrong, even if it's a good spring now he is changing it to eliminate it being the problem. So hopefully by this weekend it will be in and running again. Hopefully with no oil pressure problems. Other than the mystery oil problem the motor looks brand new. The block is in great shape even after having 23 lbs of boost run through it (a week before BG) and going through the traps at 5800 rpm (14 lbs boost in BG).
Danie, Maybe the oil pressure gauge is going bad??? o No: Just an idea, maybe toss another gauge on it just to see. I'm happy everything looks good. :TU: Tim
Tim, His warning light came on as well as the gauge showing low. Danie, Can you spin the oil pump with a drill. Keep the pan and the intake off and look for hemorages. o No: Good luck, keep us updated. Ice-cream, $1 a pound this weekend in Norwalk. :TU:
Is it possible he has a super-flow pump situation where it is pumping oil out faster than it drains back to the pick-up???? So...you end up with the pump cavitating/running dry???
check the oil filter to see it its clogging up or something to that effect{ depending on the filter brand } Check to see if there is a kink in the oil gage line { if its mechanical } SR66 :TU:
Does this include sprinkles?? Can I get peanut butter cup mixed into this pound of ice cream??? What flavors do I have to choose from??? Oh well not that it matters. I don't think we are going to be able to make it. Do you think you could save me a pound and bring it to Indy with you?? Checked it twice already.. will be checking it again when putting it back together. Rod has 14 quarts in the motor, won't run out at idle. If that was the case the oil pressure would go up to normal, 120 psi, and drop to 50 psi at idle. It's at 50 psi all the time.
Wow, how do you make suggestions to the guy with the baddest Buicks ever?!?!?!. Sounds like an internal oil leak. So heres my thought. What about the block passage from the sump to the timing cover? I'm guessing youns have it bored out pretty large to feed large volumes? Any chance that thing cracked inside? Just thinking out loud. I hope the trouble is found. Good Luck!! :TU:
Mount a second guage on the front of the block and see if the pressures match. There may be something restricting flow to the original guage. Only take a lttle piece of chit. Even in a pristeen engine.
