Do not let me have a gun, I am working on the :af: Mustang again. What I have (widowed sisters car) is a 65 Mustang with 68 302 in it. It was rebuilt and now has a few thousand miles on the rebuild. It was running OK (not that great) with a comp cam (218X218) but was a little too much cam for parades and stuff and the 302 has zip for torque. So I was talked into changing the cam. Added the following
    Crane cams 204 X 204 duration @50
    Edelbrock Performer Manifold
    HAS
about 9:1 compression checked one cylinder and has 170 psi cranking compression
    Crane XR 700 ignition
    Edelbrock 500 CFM performer carb

Pulls 17 inches of vacuumn with 6* initial timing.

Problem: White spark plugs and runs hot. I know it could use a little more timing but not until I can get rid of the lean condition.

    Things I have done.
Went 3 steps up on the jetting as recommended by Edelbrock manual. Still white.
Put on the Carter AFB from my boat (351 W Ford marine) that runs great on the boat. Has nice tan on the plugs in the boat. Runs lean on the 302. This tells me there is something in the motor not the carb.

It starts and idles good. And has good top end power. It drives lean through the normal driving range and especially on constant throttle cruise.

Has new fuel pump and good pressure.

Is there something that I could have screwed up in the cam installation or manifold installation. I installed the cam straight up. Followed instructions for preload on the lifters and I do not have lifter noise.

Help, the board hear is my last hope. I cannot even think of any place to take this thing to in SE Michigan.
