Well although I do not think that an overbore is the way to gain power with a Buick 350 I know GS Johnny is at about 80 thou overbore and I have heard of several other people in the 70-90 thou overbore. Sonic testing is a must over 40 thou BTW.

It makes a bit more sense to me to run a 30 or 40 thou overbore and stroke the crank to make it a 369 cube... Bob Makley did that to get about 420 HP with 8.5:1 compression then added boost.

Yeah, I know you did not forget... I just wanted to point out that your car will most likely wake right up with the roller cam. Great work BTW!

Finally got to romp on the car with the new gears and transmission (at proper line pressure 270psi+) after first doing 5 heat cycles to break in the rear.

Man I love gears:3gears: Even with way too high of a stall converter it sure gets movin awfully quick. When I first nailed it from a stop It pulled right to 5600+rpm and I shifted into second and pulled a little past 5000, I hit third and things weren't as smooth, power was surging and struggled to get to 5000. I think I need more fuel and possibly more spark to try and clean up my upper range.

Yeah, I would add an electric fuel pump and a regulator... Bypass the stock fuel pump.

your carb is running a .135" fuel inlet needle and seat FWIW, (float set at 9/32")

going larger than that wouldnt help if its a supply side problem.

If you wanted to try a larger one, edelbrock makes a huge .149" needle and seat.

    Gessler has .135, .145, .150 at Quadrajet Parts.com

I would think the .135 would be sufficient though.

PS Lebanon this Wed night? I have a 3.08rear and a full bottle......

when i was having upper rpm problems the pin that held the vac advance fell off and my timing was going buckwild. just something to check.

    Dial In- 14.67

    Reaction .002

    60 1.998

    330 5.875

    660 9.191

    mph1 73.77

    1000 12.087

    1320 14.551

    MPH2 91.23

Slicks hooked excellent at 16psi, car twists hard though off the line and the quarter roughed up the passenger slick a lil bit enough to let me know maybe I need an airbag in the rear.

I was having a hard time manually shifting on the column since my throw from first to second is very short and its extremely easy to miss and go into third which I did for all the runs except this one:eek2:

A couple runs I had issues up top where the car would fall flat at 4k and then all of a sudden get second wind and keep pulling. The erratic nature makes me think my ignition is to blame but the drastic difference in power suggests fuel issues.

Definitely not the 13.9 I thought I was getting close to but honestly I am very happy and I know there is still lots to do to get things quicker before I touch the top end of the engine

Edit: Couple of things I did differently this run as well, 34* timing instead of the 29* I started with, and ran with no aircleaner (I didn't like that idea and I probably won't do it again)

Good progress, maybe you need a bit more fuel pump?

Yes, I am thinking an electric pump might be in order. Although I have noticed that running 34 degrees of timing has helped the situation slightly

needing electric fuel pump at that et seems a little odd. im thinking something else is going on. bad sock, fuel filter, or plugged lines. have you went through the fuel system? if your going to go electric pump i would go all 8an lines and fittings. but still, electric at this point? :Do No: maybe valve float? have you changed the valve springs out? or does it only break up in 2nd? if it does it same rpm no matter what i would think valve float. didnt you just do a cam change?

I don't need one but if I am going to do the whole fuel system I am probably better off laying out the framework for more modifications in the future in my opinion. Valve float is very possible and right next to HEI and fuel system I plan on replacing the springs to see where that gets me.

I am still on a stock cam for the moment but I do plan on doing some top end work this winter

your still running a basically stock motor. keep running 5600 on a stock block is not going to last long. one issue your are having is aero and c/d. it takes h/p to overcome that and your not there yet. the faster you go the more it comes into play. power surging, etc could be valve float. 72 heads are a single spring and yours are probably tired.
winters coming. save the money towards building a better engine.

I agree, I don't make power past 4800 so there is no reason to push a stock engine.

This winter I definitely plan on doing some nice top end work and depending on budget I may just do some high comp pistons but I am undecided about going that far at this stage. Like you said build a good set of heads and you will always have them and thats where I would like to start. Blocks are a dime a dozen (I don't like saying that but it is true) Ported heads are a pretty penny though
