I have a 69 Buick Special Deluxe with a 3 speed and I'm kind of getting annoyed. I don't know much about transmissions but is there some way to make the clutch have a stronger connection between the engine and tranny? Whenever I let off of the clutch, I have to adjust my speed so that the clutch will catch and even then, if I get on it (open the throttle up) the clutch slips like theres no tomorrow. This is really annoying and I was wondering if someone had a video or tip or something they could share. Thanks

If the travel adjustment is within spec, it is time for a new clutch, pressure plate and release bearing. I like the Centerforce Dual Friction stuff.

By clutch do you mean clutch plate or the whole clutch? Because if I got a whole clutch then that would come with new everything

By saying "whole clutch" do you mean "clutch kit"? If so, yes they often come with matched components; clutch disc, pressure plate and throwout bearing. You'll still need to remove the flywheel from the crankshaft and have a machine shop inspect it and resurface it if it passes inspection.

There are three pieces that normally get replaced, The clutch disc, the pressure plate which provides the clamping action and the release bearing.

If your going to do "a clutch" then all three usually get replaced.

Once the transmission, bellhousing, clutch disc and pressure plate are all removed, you can remove the flywheel and pring it to your local machine shop. They can resurface it for you. Most shops get about $40

If the trans coming out anyway, might want to thing about replacing that 3 speed with a 4 speed :Brow:

Annoying is one word for it. Dangerous is another. "Opening the throttle up" with the clutch slipping will make the disc explode!!!

Not trying to hijack the thread but on a related topic:

When I drive my car it swaps through the gears with no problem until after a few hours of driving but especially on a warm day I start noticing some slippage so it appears to be heat related. I have to start double clutching at stop lights for it to fully engage, just started the end of last season before storage, any thoughts on this?
