I just had an all 1350 driveshaft built, got it home, wrong slip yoke. I remeasured my tail shaft, it's a 9 not a 13" like I thought it was.(been a long time since I put this together). Anyway, I took measurements of my old slip yoke to make sure I get the right one this time and the driveshaft shop guy is not familiar with this. It has a 5" barrel length and the splines don't start for 2". The diameter and spline count seem standard th400.

Anyone have any idea what I have? I think I pulled this trans out of a 73 riv.

    Thank you,

Thanks for the link Paul, nothing said about the spline configuration so ????

Do most 400 slip yokes have splines all the way to the end or do most stop a couple inches from the end like mine?

    Thanks again,

If I remember right, the Riv uses an output shaft with an o-ring in front of the splines, and the yoke has a tiny vent hole at the back and a smooth snout ID where it seals on the output shaft's o-ring. By design the splines see no transmission fluid and have to be greased before assembly instead.

Ok, Devon, that thread puts my mind at ease a bit. My measurements don't match what that guy was saying but he had problems after a couple hundred miles. The shop is gonna shorten the yoke and machine out the splines, the only unknown is if the inside diameter will be right for that seal.

I'll post results when I have them.

    Thanks much,

  5. That yoke is short. About 5" and it's splined all the way to the end.

I've seen the smooth bore one's, but I've only seen them on trucks with TH400's.

And I'm a 4 speed guy so my AT knowledge is lacking....

DS shop modified my yoke for $25, works perfectly, anyone need that style yoke in 1350 series u joint it CAN be done.

I just need to drill a hole in the end of the yoke as per the link.

    Thanks,
