The part number for the Buick wheel is 9748390 and that is the same number listed for the 1968 Chevy N34 option.

This is pulled from a Camaro site:
the RPO N34 simulated walnut, wood-grained plastic wheel was carried over from the previous year and was available on any Chevrolet car (and standard on the 1968 Corvette). As in 1967, the spokes were a two piece design and overlapped at the center, requiring the correct hub with a cut-out for the wheel to fit correctly

So if it is true, the 1968 Buick rallye steering wheel was the same wheel as the '68 (possibly '67) corvette and other chevy models.

There is a wheel on ebay right now that has the smooth finish like mine on the top and has a rougher finish elsewhere, I believe the rough finish is just due to wear on the wheel, it was not manufactured that way.

Now back to the original thread...

    Mike,
Interesting information...thanks. I wonder if the rougher finish is standard, and the smooth area is wear  Looking at the linked wheel...that dude driving that car would have his hands everywhere but where I place mine on the wheel. I always drive with one hand on the top. :Do No:

Unless I driving this, then I use both hands on the wheel.

I can shed some light on this topic as I have sold GM parts for muscle cars for 30+ years and have seen many original wheels in there obvious original vehicles.First of all the 67-68 GM 3 spoke wheel for regular production had a stacked lower spoke. The hub for this wheel is the same for the entire GM line.(Pontiac had it's own sport wheel offering, not at all like the rest)The exception to the 3 spoke wheel is the corvette. It had all 3 spokes on a single plane and had it's own hub.The corvette also had a variation for the tele application.Additionaly I have found the identical 3 spoke in Olds"A" Buick"A" and Chevrolet Camaro,Impala,Corvair,Chevelle. All the same wheel. The smoothness some are speaking about in this thread may have been sanded and refinished and lost the dimpling associated with new wheels. All applications are Walnut. The Walnut is actually an ingrained plastic color swirl and can not wear off.If you look closly at the color, there are threads of gold, brown and black in the mix.The 1969 steering shaft has the same thread and spline count and will except any most any GM wheel from the late 50's to the 80's.Wheels in 69 came in several variations.Olds had a special Sport wheel in 69 and had no cast hub.Pontiac had it's own variations of sport sheels also(including the first year for the Formula wheel). All Chevs,Buicks had a stacked style hub and are the same.the wheels themselves were different between Buick and Chev for 69.the hub depth shallower and O.D.is larger on 1969 than 67-68.The horn contacts are relatively identical with some minor differences and are not rocket science.the repo stuff for above mentioned wheels fits and works good. The pictured wheel is from a 1968 Skylark.

    Sky,

The link provided is contrary to your above statement. http://www.camaros.org/swheel.shtml#67

    It states:
Finally, the RPO N34 Sport Styled, simulated walnut, wood-grained plastic steering wheel was an option. For 1967, this wheel was available on any Chevrolet car (and standard on the 1967 Corvette), regardless of interior styling, and gave a look of sportiness and elegance to the interior. This steering wheel was 16 inches in diameter and had a 4 inch "dish" (the perpendicular distance from the mounting surface to the wheel). It included three brushed metal spokes and a brushed horn cap with the Chevrolet "Bow Tie" emblem in the center. The spokes were a two-piece design and overlapped at the center, requiring the correct hub with a cut-out for the wheel to fit correctly. This differed from the 1963 through 1966 Corvette wheel, which had the same dish as the Camaro but used a one piece flat spoke design with no overlap and attached to a hub without the cut-out. Also note that to be correct, the horn cap should be positioned so the white painted section is at the top, not the red and blue sections.

What is the real truth? I don't know, but it appears the wheel FS, is the same that Buick A-body's used.
