Shorties back to manifolds

    Hi there

maybe (!) I`m going back from shorties to manifolds on my 455 1971 GS. Together with the shorties was installed a 2.5" exhaust system.

My question now would be: from your experience, can the exhaust system, positionwise, be reused without mods for the manifolds, or would I have to replace (most probably) the downpipe?

    Thanks in advance

Likely only you can answer that since it’s in front of YOUR eyes.

If you look at TA's description, the shorties were originally designed for Rivieras, and have "similar" exits to stock manifolds. I think the answer is you will need to modify the down pipes. Any good exhaust shop should be able to handle it.

Pretty sure you will have to use standard downpipes as the flanges are different for the shorties

Quite true, still, it`s not up on the lift, and I would want to have everything ready the next time I`ll put it up there.

Thats what I was thinking too, Louie.. was wondering if I could fabricate some extenstion for a dual use purpose, but then, I might as well just use the standard downpipe....engine will be out of the car, I`ll see that I`ll have the right downpipe with me in case the old manifolds go back in. Still not decided on it..

    Thanks to y`all ;)
