i put monroe sensatracs all around on my electra. 12000 miles later there shot. feels like a bouncie house on the highway. monroe says they dont have an application for gas magnums for my car. what do you recommend to stiffen up yet keep decent ride, thanks marty
I've got the same shocks - they've been on the car for as long as I can remember (probably 12 or so years). I'm going with KYB Gas A Just's. They didn't have them listed for my application, but after a few hours poking around an online catalog, I was able to come up with a set that should work. Should be a nice improvement over the cushy Monroe's. Reasonably priced too.
sending back the kybs, they dont apply in the front, spoke to kyb no front app for 70 boat....went wiyh monroe gas shocks, super happy much better than sloppytracs......guys these monroes are a great upgrade at little cost....really holds the road without affecting ride or adding any harshness,marty:beers2:
I've got Sensatracks on my Buick and both of our daily drivers and have no complaints about them. They are a nice upgrade to the OEM shocks. How many miles do you have on them? 12 years is a long time for a set of shocks, unless the mileage is low.
Probably around 12k miles. The front KYB's are in, but it took a little work. I have yet to install the rears.
Where did you buy the Monroe Gas Shocks? I'm looking for some for a 66 riv. not at rock auto, summit or jegs.
Checked the PepBoys website. Pepboys lists Monroe Sensatrak (PN = 5815,$56 for front set) and MTC front shocks (PN = 32067, $50 for front set), but only bellows kits for the rear? Does MTC = Gas? Tried NAPA (made by Monroe), Checker and Autozone - none of these had a part number for the rear shocks on a 66-70 Riviera. Cars in NJ has gas shocks Front and rear listed for 66-70 $185 for full set of 4 Kanter lists them as well. $185 for a full set, $92.50 for front or rear set only These are listed as nitrogen gas shocks, not sure who makes these.
What is everybodies trick for getting to the rear upper shock bolts? I always struggle with them when I do mine.
For what it's worth, I did get the rears installed. They are slightly shorter than the stockers, but work. They are for an 80's F150. Definitely stiffer, in fact probably stiffer than KYB would use for a Buick application. Overall they work well. I wish the fronts were a little siffer, but I'm happy. Car handles pretty well with the wide BFG's, and new shocks, especially considering it's a 2 ton boat. I have my new re-worked Addco rear sway bar waiting to be installed as well.
