I have a lead on a good hood for the Riviera.
It's out in Oregon, and the price the guy quoted me includes shipping it via AMTRAK.
Really decent price I might ad.

I realize I will have to pick it up at the AMTRAK depot in St.Paul but thats no big deal.

Anyone had problems with shipping by train?

    Thanks! :beer

Hi, I am a shipping manager where I work. Although we have never used Amtrak to ship, I would ask about how the hood will be packaged i.e. in a crate. wrapped, etc. Rail is the roughest riding freight as compared to truck or air. I would also check on insurance in case of loss or damage. It must also be labeled(in a couple of places) to avoid getting stuck in the "black hole" somewhere. Ask to see if the shipment can be tracked. Train or rail is the most practical mode of transportation for consolidation and economy. Hope this helps! Mark

    Thanks Mark.
    Those are my thoughts also.
Especially how the seller would package it!
Seems it would have to be in some type of wooden crate for it to stand a chance.
My gut feeling is that it's a risky way to ship a part such as a hood.
    But I may be wrong.

I'll have to call Amtrak myself and inquire about tracking and such before I would commit to it.

Shouldn't be any worse than UPS. UPS has always been a big customer to the railroads, that's why you see all of those truck trailers on railroad flat cars.

    Dale,

Make sure that hood is in a crate, nothing less. I had a hood shipped to me in a hood box (some reinforcement) and it was damaged beyond repair. May body man said it was obvious that it had been dropped repeatedly and was crushed in the front. about a six inch gash where the hood loulding goes. Such a shame because the GS hood was in really nice shape otherwise.

    Pack well!
