OK trying to figure out shift rods for my car. What belongs on my car from the factory? The reason I ask is because I have what appears to be aftermarket Hurst rods and levers on my 70 GSX and a reverse lock out rod can not be added with these rods. Thinking these where added at some time I found a set of original Muncie rods and levers. Went to install them and it appears all rods are about an inch to long. So now what. This is what I know, I have a correct mounting plate part#1957773....I have the correct shifter body #3138....I can only guess that there is probably a factory Hurst rod set and that is what I need not factory Muncie rods.

If you check the sticky on Flynbuicks GSX resto he has good pics as JW did the frame with drive train and no body. Also ken Lisk posted pics from the GSX resto that was at Norwalk. I believe Kliner or was it Mike garrison repoducing the back drive and rods

I got the rods from Hurst as well and the backdrive from Mike. I have not tried to set these up yet. Maybe I will have a problem as well?

    First Second Rod - 2438 15 .......Measures about 11 1/2 in
    First Second Lever - ????

Third Fourth Rod - ???? ........Measures about 15 1/4 in
    Third Fourth Lever - 7080

Gold Rods all have "S" stamped on them

Reverse Rod ... Measures about 7 1/2 in

The 195-7773 is a Hurst after market shifter mounting plate, that goes with the after market rods and levers you have, what Hurst calls an "install kit"...

To use the OEM rods and levers you need an OEM shifter mount, that mounts the shifter a little different than the 195-7773 Hurst mount...

BOP A-Body when using OEM shifters, you have to use all the OEM parts, you can't mix...

The shifter mount is Re-popped as a 1971 OEM mount that fits the early and late Muncie tail housing...

GM had a 1970 mount with one bolt pattern for the small out-put Muncie... 1972 had the large bolt pattern only for the large out-put Muncie...

    Hope this helps... Crash

That Ebay unit is Inline tube. Their alter-ego is Motor city supercars.. I have seen two reproduction plates on the market. The gray one shown and a gold one.

Scott, those pics should halp me as well. There are two versions of aftermarket rods. There are two thin ones that are 3/8" and 1/2" like original. I got the wrong ones and did not know any better until I saw a friends original set-up on his 442 and knew something was up.

Dave Kliner can give the correct dimensions of every bolt, nut, rod, erc. I had a few mixed parts from a 350 4 speed that was messing up my geometry and he really helped me out.

Guys you have been a big help. Any idea why someone would want to change from factory rods to Hurst rod set up? They have a little patina so may have been on there a while.
