on my 72 skylark the tail lights work but the reverse lights do not. i changed the bulbs and the sockets seem to be ok. i m guessing it is the conection somewhere... there is a hole in the trunk that lets water into the trunk and i think that this is the culprit for the socket that is soaked but this is only on one side. since the sockete is wet should i also get this replaced?

then, both of my headlights work. but when i turn on the high beams the outer light on the right side of the car and the inner light on the left side go so dim you can t tell it s on hardly.

also, on the dash, the right arrow light for the indicator does not come on but he indicator does work. will i have to go through the dash board for this?
i know this is a lot thanks for your help!

On the headlamps I would check the plug ins at the headlamps, and posibbly clean the terminlas on the headlamps. Also, check to make sure you have a good ground...... 90% of the time thats what ails the old cars.
On the backup lamps, check the fuse first, then get a test light and check the wire at the tail lamps for 12V+ . This could also be a ground problem.... so check that also if you do have the 12volts there. Best way to do that is check the hot wire to the lamp in question.....should be 12V......then test the ground wire side and you should get almost no voltage. This is with the bulbs installed, by the way.

    Hope this helps.....

Most times on the reverse lights it is the switch on your steering column has died. It turns the reverse lights on when you put your shifter into reverse. Sometimes it is just out of adjustment too. You can check by having someone watch to see of they momentarily come on when you shift from park to drive very slowly. If they do you need adjustment. If they don't, make sure you have power going in and coming out of the switch when it is in reverse. HTH
