Just left the garage and I am 1 happy camper ! Done a full tune up on the 61 , give it 3 or 4 good gulps of some 110 octane racing fuel and it fired up . The turbo mufflers on it sounded pretty cool. No smoke , no knocks , very very slight lifter peck which I think will go away with a oil change . I got a quart of oil additive with the zddp in it , should I do 4 quarts and the additive ?

Hey mosslack , gonna give the brakes a look . might haft to build the master cylinder , can't seem to locate a reman so I'll try my luck at the rebuild. I think my biggest issue at this point that I have will be fixing the driver side wing window . gear must be fubared , turn , turn , turn , the crank handle , nothing . If you know of one of these assemblies let me know.

yes. That's what I do, additive as part of the total (for me 6 quarts total)
I always add Marvel Mystery Oil to the crankcase and drive it around a bit before each oil change. It's supposed to break loose any sludge....

My master was shot also, bought a rebuild kit but then I noticed an old reman on Ebay for like $10. The rubber boot was a bit brittle, but it worked just fine. I got brakes, but not good at all. Took it to a friend/mechanic and he ended up buying a couple wheel cylinders for ones that were bad. Shoes were all new so after he bled the system I have good brakes now and for cheap.

I may end up going with a dual master system for safety in the near future. It's an easy re-plumb to get it working, just check this thread for more info: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?253108-Anybody-switched-to-a-dual-reservoir-master-cylinder

Mine doesn't have power brakes so it is pretty simple. The booster adds some complication, but you should come up with some good info when you read that thread.

Don't know how your gas tank is, but I lucked out as mine was bone dry when I got it. I have not done anything to it but keep an eye on the filter at the carb. Working fine. Let me know if you have any other items I can help with.

Ok bhambulldog let me get this straight ... I can do a 5 quart plus the 1 quart additive and be safe , not to worry about overfill?

Forgot to say what I was going to originally say about this, I had to remove both front side window assemblies on mine, the window setting channels were bad, so I had to remove the wings on both sides. Pretty easy to get to, but I can post stuff from my service manual if you need it. Also I plan to buy my parts from 421-6speed (Dan) when I have the extra cash. He has a couple of parts cars so I would guess he has what you need.

mosslack I was wondering what all year models will interchange and will it have to be a 4 door sedan ? I own a 60 -2 door sedan but not sure if it will interchange .

1961-1964 GM large bodies are mostly all the same except some external sheet metal, 2 dr vs 4 dr,etc. Not sure if the one from a 2 dr. sedan will work. Is it a flat top?

not a flat top mosslack but I'm bettin it would work. Kinda hate to start robbing parts off it cause it is pretty much restoreable . No motor or trans but everything else is there . May try to sell it for a couple bucks . weim55 has one like ,wonder if he needs another???

    Nope, sorry I wasn't clear.
Don't put more than is called for. Make the ZDDP part of the total five quarts.

(I didn't make it clear that my car holds more than Five quarts ..)
    Sorry for that confusion

Longtops: My '61 had a wing window crank assembly that was having issues too...I removed it, and found that a plate that is supposed to be held on it was missing! I found it in the bottom of the door, and re-attatched it, now the crank works fine! I hope yours ends up working out.
