I have recently read that serpentine belts rob less hp than v-groove belts. Does anyone have a serpentine setup on their car currently? And if so what pulleys are you using.
Hey Dave, I don't have the setup, but I was sure thinking about it real hard before the SC came along........ my thoughts were to try and use the accessories / pulleys off the good old 3.8 ........... It would take some work (after looking at it) but I don't think it would be too hard.... just time consuming.
thanks Rich Thanks for the idea on where to start. Now I just have to find a pulley to start with. I am also considering an electric water pump so I only have to deal with the alternator then.:beer
Re: thanks Rich Dave, I used the Moroso waterpump kit on my car. Summit will tell you that it won't work but I have proof that it will ,lol. Easy install of course(how hard could it be ??) once you figure out which holes to use in the flat moroso bracket. Just an idea, and let me know about the belt setup, could use a little "extra" anywhere I can find it ya know ? c-yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Hi Guys, To my knowledge every serpentine belt set-up I've dealt with uses a reverse flow water pump that causes the pump to spin backwards (in regards to it's usual V-belt counterpart's rotational direction) due to the routing of the serp. belt. For instance look up a water pump for a Ford 302/5.0L and you will find two different pumps for that very reason. Something to think about....but I'm not positive about the 3.8L Buick set-up. o No: Hope this adds to the conversation...
Totally off topic, but I was curious who GS Dave was on this board. I am GS Dave on the other boards I go to, and had to take a different handle here. LOL Its cool though, you have an original GS, mine is a W-body GS(still pretty quick though). ANyway, sorry to go off topic.
serpintine belt what about the rover engine. do they still have the same bolt patterns as buicks? o No: andy
Not all serp belt set-ups spin the wp backwards. Just look at the wp pulley. If it is smooth...it runs backwards, if it is groved, it runs same as the crank. Some late 80's early 90's Ford trucks run this way. That's why some also had left hand treaded fan clutch's on them.
It's called reverse rotation. Reverse flow is what Chebby used on the LT1, which cooled the heads first. :Smarty:
March was suppositly making the serpentine belt set up for BBB,it may be out give them a call. Thanks
Re: thanks Rich I really miss my serpentine setup. Maybe we will figure out how to put one together with the Procharger (when I retire  )
Yes, you can shop around and will find a pump cheaper. But the thing is that they are not the same. The pump we sell has a heavy duty motor, all others do not. That's why our pump is a little bit more. The Maziere's charges us more to build them for us this way. Trying to give you all the very best we can, not the cheapest.
