Hey guys whatsup? Ive got a 84 regal limited and its got a 305 chev in it (BOO!). A local guy has a running buick 350 for sale with tranny for like 300$. I was wondering what im going to be going against to slap this motor into my car. I want to use the stock carb (q-jet) with the stock computer, will i be able to do this? Now with cooling how big of a rad would i need? would the stock one work? Can I use the stock trans and swap the bellhousing to fit the motor? (stock tranny was rebuilt not to long ago) What will i need interms of a flywheel and converter? can i use the stock stuff. What about mounts? will i need to be drilling for new motor mounts? does anybody make mounts? I want to run a dual exhaust. Will i need to make a dual exhaust crossmember for the tranny? or can i buy one? I want to run headers, are they a big deal to get past the steering shaft? Im also slighly worried about gas milage (it is my daily driver). I want to be able to get about 22 mpg on the highway. The rearend will be gettin some form of posi with 3:23 gears, and also can i run a 4 speed auto with the buick motor? This is my first ever swap and i want to make sure its a positive experience, and i also am doing it on quite the tight budget! thanks for all the help in advance guys!
change the frame pads to regal v6 mounts and the v8 will slip in with v6 mount(suggest poly grand nat mounts) no drilling that way if you wanted to use comp carb you would need to find a v6 dist and use the v8 guts/electronics to get that part to work make o2 sensor bung and any other sensors will have to swaped onto engine including knock sensor more work than its worth rad should be big enuff if in good shape bellhousings dont come off gm auto transmissions so unless you have a multi-fit case you cant use(check to see if you have overdrive trans it most likely will be multi-fit) summit racing /g-force has dual crossmembers for trans/exhaust so yes you will need this headers should fit past the steer shaft but not sure about anything else your car might be overdrive already if not yes you can use one on a buick engine just make sure you get the detent cable(to the carb) attached and adjusted right otherwise you will ruin trans fast i dont think your going to get 22 mpg with this combo unless you have a 2 series gear and do alot of hiway driving stock 350buick flywheel should work with your convertor ta has exhaust systems for this body style and can get it to setup to headers if you have a overdrive in your car now you could call ckperformance about the trans set/any other needs for the overdrives to hold up
hi; i,m a new guy to this . i have a 84 regal to but it has a 3.8 in it .i need to know how to put in a chevy 350-trans and 350 block? my car is not running so this well be a rebuild. or can i use my trans, and get the motor to mount to it?what part's will i need to do this job easy and wright the first time.
you will need to find out type of trans you have, more than likely you cant use it on your chevy engine as to the bolt pattern is different from chevy to buick/old/pontiac/caddilac you will need a bigger radiator and hold down/fan shroud(monte or other gbody with v8) you will need accel cable bracket/all brackets and pulleys for chevy motor including power steering pump, alternater, fan(unless going electric)AC if you want it you will need frame mounts(get new parts store) and the matching "clam shell" engine mounts(junk yard or swap meet) headers and exhaust (edelbrock headers for monte work well for single exhaust emmisions setup) 350 trans would be best setup but if you have a 2004r in your car now would be usable.fuel pump will be on opposite side of engine as buick v6 run some hose under engine the holes up toward the front and top or crossmember should line up with the mounts that you get and engine will drop right onto them, use the bolt you take out of the v6 frame pads(metric) you will need new front springs as the v6 is much lighter than a small chevy also camaro, trans am,s-10,astrovans will have 3 series gears that you can bolt into your rearend housing a 350 buick will drop in to 3.8 v6 mounts if you want to go that route i might have stop chevy stuff laying around that i could give you a good price on since my regals have big buick 455s in them now
Eric since you already have a Buick car with a Buick motor all already set up for a Buick engine why not just find a 350 Buick motor?
thank you for the come back. now you said that i need to change the front springs? can i use 1982 to 1990 camaro springs, etc.i would like to use a bigger set of brake's from a camaro too if i can.and i would love to have a set of disc's on the back!!can i also use the radiator?
the camaro springs and radiator yes brakes no,use b body (caprice) spindle with camaro 1LE rotors or 71 to 81 camaro spindle and brakes
To do this, it would behoove you to get the aftermarket upper control arms from Global West or Hotchkis, otherwise you'll never be able to get the alignment correct.
moog k6146 for camaros i cant find one specific to a regal but they do list similar kits for regals just not listing offsets. would have to check
The 84 Buick should have a 200R4 transmission as the larger 700R4 would not fit in the tunnel. I think it was dual pattern bolt-up, have it redone to V8 specs. Emissions are a problem with newer cars. If you are going to race it, up grade to TPI engine, if not at least use a TBI system. Painless wiring will make it work. Carbs were designed a hundred years ago. Diver
