Appears to be a 71 hood according to the grates and hood nose trim, but a 72 grille.Has a most likely 71 front bumper as well. Has to most likely be a 71-72 because of sport mirrors. I am betting its a 72 since it appears to be burnished copper which wasn't available in 71.The front clip was obviously swapped.
71 will be next to impossible to tell. You'll need the build sheet, I don't rember if Sloan can document a 71 or not o No: 72 the VIN should tell the tale. Posting the VIN & cowl tag would extinguish all doubt.
Wont be able to get any vins or cowl tags. I ran in someones yard and took those pictures. I also left a note. Still waiting. Trying to figure out if it has any value.
find out what it is buy it and restore it ..... or let me buy it .......naw just playing ...but really...... :Brow:
If the front clip has been replaced, then it could be just a Skylark. The only tell-tale items that it is actually a GS455 are the badges and the hood - which could be non-original to the chassis. However the hood has two spots (both at the back corners) that may have paint that matches the rest of the body.
71 Looks like it has a sport wheel bucket seats and the front center cap is a 71 silver back and sits up nice check it out don't wait. :Brow:
Is there anything in the VIN or tag to determine a GS455? I am trying to buy it, but need to know what the heck it is? Where would the engine numbers be to check against VIN? Thanks for all your help! Tom
If this is a 71 car...will be tough to verify a Big Block car from a Small block. The vin for 71's will be similar as an example 43437 designates either a 350,455 or Stage 1. In 72, you can tell just by the vin. For example it will be 4G37(then followed by a K,U,V)the K being a 350,U being455 standard ,or V a Stage 1.So,if for example if the vin is as follows it would be a Stage 1 car 4G37V2Hxxxxxx.If this is a Skylark then it wont be a Big block and could be example 4D or 4H. Get the vin info if you can as well as the cowl tag info, and it will be easier to decode. If its a Skylark with a GS front end(I believe it could possibly be a GS)then the vlue wont be as much as if its a GS.
Many years ago I had a Rosewood (color) 71 GS that looked very much like this one. It was the original color of the car, my Dad purchased it new. Auto, 350-4, no A/C.
Looks like a bittersweet mist 71 GS . You will have to do some sluthing to uncovber its heritage . Crawl under it and see what the trans tag says on the passenger side . See if the VIN last 6 digits match the car . BA code would be a 455 GS . If your serious remove the power steering pump and bracket and see if the engine stamping just under the head surface is the same as the vin , also check between the 7 and 8 spark plug on the face of the block for a TR which would be a 455 GS engine . I think the fromt has had a amature primer job and is rusting thru . Save it now if you can .
