In order to minimize the potential for wearing our a cam if I install new lifters, what steps should I take? Should I use break-in compound (or will that just scratch the surface of the cam)? Should I do a normal break-in, 1800-2000 RPM for 20-30 minutes? Do nothing, just put them in and drive? Thanks, -Bob Cunningham
If you are going to put new lifters on a prviously run cam, You have to treat it just like a new cam breakin. I have seen this done successfully, but I have also seen the cam go flat after installing new lifters. Take every precaution you can here. Jim Burek
