First, I don't think it is possible to get it working without the switch.
Second, I'd suggest posting an introduction in the "wet behind the ears" forum and follow the guidelines for referred to therein.
Third, I'd post the question in the correct section related to automatic transmission issues.

So what kind of Jeep do you own that has a Riv transmission in it?

    JB, welcome aboard!

To energize the stator, you'll have to get +12V to the top terminal of the two-pronged connector on the left (driver's side) of the transmission case. Pics and more info here: http://www.buickperformance.com/switchpitch.htm

This can be done easily by wiring a momentary switch somewhere within your reach while you're driving.

There are more elegant ways to do this, let us know how much info you'd like.

Realize that without the original switching setup, you're missing detent function (downshift, kickdown, passing gear, what have you) as well.

    BUICKRAT Got any treats?

The reason we all assume you have a jeep is because you posted this thread in the "Jeeps with a Buick heartbeat" forum.
You might get more responses if you post in "The juicebox" forum.

You may also find the info you need by trying the advanced search function.

    Welcome, btw.
