I subscribe to faster coolant flow the more heat will leave the engine, but it does have to be complimented with more air flow over the radiator. AKA, at speed the faster coolant moves, the more heat will leave the engine because the air passing through the radiator over ~25mph is substantial.

I've never had an issue finding and using the "Help" section studs, so I'm a little unsure of why they would not be working for you :Do No: And I always use a lock washer with them. Never lost one. Hardware stores typically carry a variety of studs as well.

Here is a picture of my fan clutch. Not much thread showing. You need more fine thread, the pulley, and fan clutch mounting flange take up room.

My water pump is fine threaded and if I run them down until they bottom out on the unthreaded part, they will hit the pump body before they bottom out.

You guys are telling me your pumps are coarse threaded? Everyone I have or have had it fine threaded 5/16-24 on the pump flange. I know because I've had this flex fan on 3 motors and all of them are that way.

Yeah, every GM pump I've ever messed with had coarse threads on it and fine thread nuts. Just like the carb mounting.

This is a fairly old picture, but that's one of the "Help" section stud kits on the water pump, and the longer fine threads are out.

All my pumps are coarse threaded. The nut goes on the fine threaded part.

    Michael Evans a new project

What I have used in the past were carburator studs. If you are up my way, I'll hand you some.

I have 3 water pumps here and all are fine threaded on the flange. How is this possible? All are short pumps.

    I can't explain that.:Do No:

ALL "NailHeads" are fine thread on the pump flange. Just my thought, but I think most are thinking backwards.

I hate to doubt ANYONE, but Larry if you take off one of the nuts I think you will see that they are course thread. Anyway, that's what it looks like in the picture you posted. Now, curiosity will get to you & you will HAVE to go downstairs & take a look.

My apologies, you are absolutely right, fine thread goes into the pump flange, coarse thread out, just went and looked at my pump. That leaves us back with the question, where to get the right studs.

Greg, so far, I can't find the right ones, looked in the TA and ARP catalog. If worse comes to worse, you can use a longer carburetor stud and just trim them to shorten the fine threaded side. That's all I have right now, I'm still looking.

OK, not crazy then. Whoo! Yes, that's about what I'm going to do or buy some shanked bolts and cut my own fine threads into them or vice versa, buy fine thread and cut coarse threads.

Arguing with a V-8 Buick member is like mud wrestling with a pig..... after a while you realize the pig likes it.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

If You shorten the flange (fine) end of the studs that you have, will the fan mount end (coarse) still be long enough?

I looked at that and there just isn't enough coarse thread on the ones I can find to provide enough length. After you put on a pulley, the fan and a lock washer, there's no threads sticking out of the nut. I like a few threads to show.

There is a local place called Diamond Screw and those folks have every manner of nut, bolt, washer and thingamajig you can imagine in the way of fasteners.

This is what I want by the picture but lots of them show the correct pic but have the wrong dimensions.

How is the fine thread end? how much depth does it have? only put them in deep enough so you have more coarse thread, locktite the fine end in place with red???????????
