I have a set of rods that are 100 plus grams more that TA sportsman rods. but all the extra weight is on the big end of the rod. My question is is it better to have weight on the big end around the crank with light weight pistons or is extra rotating weight just bad no matter where it's located.
I guess if you had to pick between a lighter reciprocating, but heavier rotating weights - that should be the lesser of two evils, so to speak. One other downfall would be if you already had the assembly balanced for the lighter rods....then you'd have to add heavy metal to balance - still might have to add some.o No: Ultimately, the lighter you make the entire assembly - the longer it all will live!!
Thanks Scott, I know it wont affect the HP but the faster a car can get in the power band the faster it will get to the finish line. How much performance do you think I will be leaving on the table as far as ET is concerned.I've also seen a thread where the counter weights were file down on the ends to lighting the crank up. Do you think this would be cost effective or not enough gain to justify the added cost.
Terrance - I'll have to leave any ET predictions to the experts. Hopefully, one of the Jims(or anyone else that may be able to answer that) will see this thread. How high do you plan on spinning this engine?
