What makes these better than stock? Unfortunately I need to get a new balancer, so I might as well get one of these(the new TA is $250). Is the Romac's center still seperated from the outer ring by rubber? Is it more accurate? Does it resist getting unbalanced/screwed up(?) better? I am trying to reach "Maddog Racing" in Florida. <<dwpartsguy@erwparts.com>>. He has a bunch of Romac balancers for sale on e-bay for Fords for $219. I mailed him for a quote, he said to call him. But it is continually busy. I definetly have other things I'd rather be spending $$ on right now, but I am pretty sure my current balancer has slipped, which is why I am having temp problems, starting problems, idling problems, and pinging in a low compression motor @ 32* total and 91 octane. Thankx for any help I can get.
dwparts Just talked to the guy. He said that as far as he knows, Romac does not make one, and if they do it would take him 2 months to get it.
Automotive Machine and Performance sells the Romac Balancer for the BBB. About 310.00. 1-888-624-3848, 6235 Highway 54, Philpot, KY 42366. TA performance sells the BHJ Damper. Both are SFI Balancers.
The romac will work with the stock timing mark, the stock pulleys will fit, the only thing you will need is a longer bolt. Jim Burek
You may also need to grind the front lip of your timing cover a bit where it meets the pan. I had to clearance mine about 1/32 of an inch........
If you look at the too side by side, there is NO comparison. The stock unit is very weak in the hub area where the SFI units are solid. I don't think there is any ruber in the Romac balancer (at least none visible to the eye). It should give you years of trouble free service...... plus, all the timing marks on it come in real handy.
