Any opinions on the "Gas Tank Renu" process? My Riv tank leaks and it seems like a better option than trying to find a new or good used tank.

If you could find a tank I'd consider yourself lucky.

I need one and can find one anywhere.

My experience with tank sealers is not good. Bought some from Eastwood for my '66 C-10 and it peeled off in sheets after I filled it with gas.

Eastwood customer service told me what nothing in the instructions did.

After you clean the inside, it needs to be Sahara dry before you do the sealer.

Just make sure you know everything about whatever product you decide to use.

Ive Used Tank Kreem on many bikes with great success. I know a car is a much bigger proposition but it can be done. On my Jeep I filled it with water and brazed it.That was an interesting afternoon!

are you sure there is actual holes in the tank? my riv has 2 fuel lines and 3 vent lines, and when I filled it up all the way the vents would leak due to age... might be worth checking, good luck to you either way!

Mine will do that, or slosh around on a full tanks and leak out the filler. I've had good luck (5+ years) with P0R-15 products, and I hardly had a tank left.

Thanks for the suggestions.I haven't checked it closely yet.The car has sat for a dozen years and when I unloaded it off the flatbed the rear of the car scrapped the driveway due to flat rear tires.I assumed I buggered up the tank that way but it was at a steep angle when it was unloaded.

My sending unit rubber doughnut gasket was cracked from age and whenever I filled the tank it leaked from there.

Just got off the phone with them. He's got ONE for a 71 Riviera and he wants $1000 for it. I think he'll be sitting on that a while.

Hey, more power to him. I know they are rare but as my buddy said about it, "Some guys think they have gold and die broke."

How many people do you think NEED that tank? He said it's the only one he's seen in 10 years so that should say something.

I looked at Summit and found a 17 gallon aluminum fuel cell for $255.

That's good enough for me. I'll leave the $1000 tank for someone doing a full on restoration.

Model year 1971 and 1972 Rivieras had the filler neck on the driver's side rear of the car.
So that's not even what you're looking for....

I made the same choice in the late '90's and have never looked back since. I used a 22 gallon circle track cell with 0-90 Ohm sending unit, updating to an aluminum cell due to track requirements.

Sorry, kind of hijacked this thread. The OP has a 67. I have a 71.

To get back on track, at these prices, I'd try the tank sealer all day long!

When I visited Jerry back in December 2008, he had a few Boattails in his lot.

I took my gas tank to "Don Harts Radiator & Gas Tank Renu" in Waller, Texas. 800-321-4278. He cleaned it, repaired holes, & sealed it inside & out for $450.00 - has a serial # attached to it for Life Time warranty. I saved money on shipping because I`m only 40 miles away. Even with shipping it`s still cheaper than $1000, plus it`s guaranteed. I sent the sending unit to "John Wolf & Co. INC.. they rebuilt it & sent back for $140.00. That`s been about 6 months & 1000 miles ago, no problems. Just a suggestion.

Thanks............I found a used one at a good price.
How does your tank look after the "Renu" process? I saw a picture of one that looked like it was covered in tar.

It looks more like a thick paint job. They will give a lifetime warranty ONLY if you have inside & outside coated, 1 year ( I think) warranty if coated on inside. I can only see the bottom once mounted, Not a "Show Car", but a clean weekend driver.
