I am in need of a black 1970 rim blow steering wheel for a worthy project :Brow:

I'm willing to trade cash, parts and/or parts+cash I really need a wheel in excellent condition.

    Thanks!

What kind of car is this for? I am assuming it is for a 70 Mustang.

    Andrew,
They made them for lots of cars, including Buicks.

    Steve,
I think only 1 company produced the wheels for all the car companies. If you find an incomplete wheel and need internal working pieces you can order the pieces through Ford. GM lists all the pieces as long gone, but up to a few years ago Ford had everything to make it work. Hope this helps.

Thank you both for the reply's - the rim is for a 70 Stage 1 convertible under restoration.
I have the original it's just pretty rough looking - Duane if needed I'll go your route and have this one restored.
    Regards,
    Steve

I would love to find one for my 70 car too...only it was dark brown. If I find a black one I'll be sure to let you in on it. G

Hey, Lucille's paperwork indicates that she had a black one also, but it's long gone. What size was the 70 Rimblower and does anyone have a pic? I'm not sure if I've ever seen one....

UGH. Thanks for posting that - I was imagining a steering wheel with a metal ring separate inside the actual steering wheel. I've seen those, not sure what they're called. That's not the best looking thing in the world, definitely doesn't seem to be 'sporty', so I'll stick with the sport wheel I've got.

Sure wish whoever ordered Lucille would have used the Rimblower money for other stuff.......posi rear end, better radio, or a Stage 1!!

I see these sometimes and will keep this on the menu of parts needed. I compiled a list of wheel resto companies and numbers in an old post.

What is the combo of colors and options on that stage 1 convert?

Is that you old X on ebay?

I remember, as a kid, we used to have a '70 Pontiac Catalina 400, that also had the Rimblower wheel. There are 2 things that I can remember about it, very clearly:

    1) If you hit a bump, for example, just hard enough, to cause you to grip the wheel "too tight", the stupid horn would blow, and it actually became IRRITATING, because "too tight" really means "just barely"! :spank:
I think my Dad finally just removed the fuse, so the horn wouldn't blow for the stupidest reason! No kidding, that horn was just that sensitive and obnoxious! :Do No:

    2) As a kid, I used to pretend to drive, and I was CONSTANTLY getting my Fingers/Palms PINCHED when the 2 halves of the wheel were squeezed together to make the contact! :ball: :af:

The Rimblower wheel was probably the WORST design they could have ever thought of, which is WHY you don't see it, anymore! :Smarty: :TU:

I don't mean to discourage anyone from getting one, because if it's an original option, that's cool. For functionality, though, you might want to consider not using it, as you'll find out for yourselves, I guarantee! :TU:

My dad has a 1970 Ford LTD 2dr. HT that has the rim-blow steering wheel in it. His works well--you just have to get used to it or you will blow it accidentally. You can't drive with your hand on the inside bottom of the wheel or it will blow on you.
