Reverse Lockout with Headers?

Discussion in 'U-shift em' started by Aerobatix, Dec 22, 2008.

My car is currently missing the reverse lockout linkage and I also have headers on the car. Chatting with someone the other day at a local cruise-in and they said the reverse linkage may have been removed when the headers where installed because of interference.

I want to install the correct reverse lockout linkage. Can this be done and have it operate correctly if headers are installed?

Anyone have a complete and correct reverse lockout linkage for sale?

    Thanks!

Kenne-Bell headers have been on my car since I bought it (25 years) and the linkage for the reverse lock out has been on it and functional with no interference issues at all.
I have not researched it but some of the generic,(read chevy) lock out linkage might work.
    Good luck:TU:

Hey Rob, how does your reverse lock out works right now?

Thats just for getting the back up lights to turn on, right??

The reverse lock out also moves a collar on the steering column enabling the steering column lock, as well as switching on the reverse lights.

Right now I try to remember to reach up and twist the steering column so the reverse lights are OFF while I am driving. Whenever I do remember I always have to twist it back to the correct position in order to remove the key.

Right now EVERYTHING on my car (as far as I know) works correctly. This is the last remaining item for me to feel the car is completely functional.

I feel STUPID whenever I forget to twist the steering column to turn off the reverse lights while driving. It's kinda like when you're behind someone driving while they have their blinker turned on yet they are oblivious to their own oversight!

I do not know what brand headers are on the car. In taking a look it seems like the headers would NOT interfere with the linkage. I told my wife that the reverse lockout linkage is what I want for Christmas!!

The linkage couldnt interfere with the headers. Automatic cars use the same back drive linkage.

Back in the day, having your reverse lights on indictated that you were looking to street race somone!

RACEBUICKS aka Mike Garrison has some of the parts you will need to install/hook up the reverse lockout.
