Another vote for Model Roundup. I've used them for over a decade. Orders are correct, and the only minor issue was a cracked A pillar from in dozens of models.
Wow that 68 looks great Nicholas. Are you planning on adding the dealer installed cowl induction and air cleaner?
No doubt, Model Roundup looks to "fulfill more fantasies..." With a bit of patience, V8Buick has proven to be more useful than any Google search...!!! Regarding the '68 cowl induction: Patrick acquired such a system after I built the "Little Brown Car..." Taking into account the "personal history" behind the model, I do not propose to "retro-fit..."
Just for fun… In 1985 or 86, before the introduction of the Monogram GSX kit, I was determined to build a GS model. I started with the MPC ’72 Chevelle “SSlasher…” How many times have we gazed across a car show… (or, in my case, in 1985, a grocery store parking lot… LOL!) and said “That might be a Buick over there…!!!” Only to be disappointed to find the familiar, shared roofline, of a 70-72 Chevy… (Given “present company,” I hope that my characterization of “finding a 70-72 Chevy” being a “disappointing event…” might be an “appropriate/acceptable response…” )
Modeling putty, sheet styrene, and much sanding, got me here… (Once upon a time, the paint resembled 10-10 Glacier White.) No doubt, in my “enthusiasm,” the body line is a scale inch or two more “pronounced” than prototype…
Wide BBC valve covers easily accommodated four “ribs,” made from the smallest Evergreen strip stock I had on hand. Somewhat visible through the missing windshield, the Chevy automatic console (available in 1:1 reproduction from many vendors, for a price not much more than the value of a “semi-rare” model kit…) makes a decent 1/25th Buick console… ...The Monogram kit made much work obsolete... (but "raised the bar...")
Model Car World may either offer, or may want to mold your 68 body to make a resin mold. I have many of their resin cast releases...and use alot of their paints. These are just a few they offer.
Hmmph... the Monogram GSX radiator top plate ain't too bad... But, the firewall...??? As some may well know, the wiper motor and voltage regulator from the Monogram '69 GTO are pretty nice... Compared to what we are expected to use from the Monogram '70 GSX kit...
Thanks for the tip. I may have to raid the one from the kit I have. Maybe look at casting them. I have a couple projects in the works, at least 7. including a 71 Zone car and 72 Suncoupe. Tim
Breaking (possibly actually old…???) News! I just received a 1/25th Revell/Monogram ’72 Olds H/O convertible kit. (Further indulging my wishful thinking/fantasy, that I may be providing “invaluable assistance” to dozens of Buick modelers around the world, who are working on 1/25th 1968 GS 400 models… LOL!) This ’72 Olds kit was released in 2009, too late to have contributed to my above build. (If I HAD since seen it in a hobby shop, I passed it up, no doubt expecting another AMT, or Jo-Han, re-issue. “My Bad!” LOL!) It is, alas, a new tool, and quite impressive! The floor pan and suspension compare favorably with the Monogram GSX kit, as far as shape and detail. And potentially resolve the, initially assumed “negligible,” scale difference… (Monogram 1/24th GSX painted black, Revell/Monogram 1/25th ’72 Olds H/O in bare light grey plastic) Too boot, a reasonable semblance of a Delco-Moraine power brake booster!
I must add… Should you use the 21st century Revell/Monogram frame/floorpan, I must suggest a bit of “Dremel tool intervention,” or careful sanding, on the passenger frame rail… (Referring back to the model box, “Oldsmobile,” “Cutlass,” and “442” are all trademarks of the General Motors Corporation… Seems “Hurst” was “late to the game…”)
Nick, so the 72 Olds 442 chassis works with the GSX body. Non stock frame marks can be easily solved by file/ sand paper. Tim
Sorry if I wasn't clear... The Olds chassis fits the 1/25th 68 GS, and, presumably, all old 1/25th A-body kits. (I had to do a bit of surgery to to use "modern" 1/24th parts under my 1/25th 68.) Also--While the '72 Olds convertible seems to be discontinued, and about $70-80 on the "secondary market," there is a '71 442 Coupe on the market that is presumably just a new body, front bumper/grille and tail lights. I have one on order...
