I think its all relative to what you want. Certainl they are no match for fuel injected and intercooled, but they can be made to work. It depends on your skill, patience, and how much drivability you want. Alan the dinosoar guy said he had considered just what your describing before going to fuel injection/turbos.

    Yup!

If I can put my hands on everything I'll mock it up and take a picture of it. (will probably take a while, nats coming up, and all!)

Where did I put those turbos?

I know someone who had an old "Banks" twin turbo setup on a 'Vette - twins on a stroked SBC w/ 307 or some other low gear.

Ran low 11's......but at something at like 138 mph !!!!:Brow:

    David,

Generally you get what you pay for, but there are good deals to be made if you pay attention to sales.
e-bay can be especially bad, 'cause you don't actually get to see the stuff first hand. Sure, you can leave "negative feedback" if you do get burned, but that doesn't really fix the problem.
I've bought a lot of stuff off e-bay, and have yet to experience a bad deal. I've purchased a number of superchargers, and turbos, all have arrived as advertised, and in great shape.
A few tips; Ask LOTS of questions. Get the seller to send closeup pictures, lots of 'em. Check the sellers rating, and read the comments left by others. If the person has a rating of "0" or less, run away. Make sure you know exactly the turbos you need for your application. The compressor sizing, turbine A/R ratio, ect. If you don't know what you need, find out!
Kerry and other sages will point you in the right direction for engine build, and setup, but the responsibility to buy good, correct parts falls to you. Oh yeah, you need to perfect the art of e-bay "sniping".

Good luck, let us know the progress.

    Robin Sipe.
