Made the mistake of thinking that a repro 71 riv trunk lid seal was approaching stock configuration, it was not.

Stock is a squarish config while the after market is a lipped triangilar POS, does anyone know a stock product for the 71 riv, I noticed that the seal is the same shape as my 68 olds delmont trunk lid seal. iassume all large size GM products of that era had similar other then length, trunk seals.

    Any have aclue?

THe biggest problem with any new trunk rubber, is that is it too firm to let the trunk sit and close level without SLAMMING the trunk closed the first few times. It then has to "conform" to the surfaces, which gives it the square look.

The stuff you bought is probably correct, it just doesn't look like the old stuff, because it's been flattened by 35 years of pressure and drying.

I wish that was true, but it's not. if you have a source for the trunk seal on a 71 Riv please give me a link.

I ran into the same thing some years ago. I don't remember which vendor it was now, but the new rubber fit in the groove okay-and looked right, but it was too high-no way could I get the lid down at all-
