Repro chrome headrest locks- have you bought any?

So I deceided to replace the chrome headrest locks on the 70 GS. The chrome is shot on the originals. I ordered a set of 4 for 36.95 from Ground Up Restorations.

The headrest locks screw into an oval metal base that the headrest slides into. The base is probably an 1/8" tall from the seat material. The original chrome headrest lock fits over it completely.

I go to install the reproduction, and the new part fits on top of the metal base. So when installed, you can see the metal base in between the chrome and the vinyl. Thats wierd. I take the repro one off to compare it and see the problem- when viewed from the bottom, the original is deeper to totally encapsulate the metal base whereas the repro is very shallow. :spank:

The repros look like crap. Did anyone else notice this or is it just me?

Jason - I had a similar issue when I redid the bucket seats for my Buick. Not much I could do about it - would be nice the repros were made to be the same as the original pieces.

I just put a new set on a `70 GTO that fit perfectly. I assume they are the same as a Buick but not 100% sure. I got them from Ames www.amesperf.com Part # A131RL
