I have a report from The factory stock race at Dayton Ohio. The air is real bad, about 95+ degrees, and extremely humid. Just like it was the 1st day at the Quaker City event in '01. About 25 cars are attending. Dave H, Casey, Brian S., are there. Jim Spetzman is #1 Qualifier with a 12.24 at 113. Congrats Jim! :beer Have fun, I hope the weather improves for you all tommorrow! :TU:

Darn, I wish I were there..............

Anyways, I managed to locate the irritating rattle in the vavle train last night, anyone missing a 3/8 drive 3/8 inch deep socket :jd:

I apparently have driving with it in there for 2 years !

Anybody have some numbers on how people qualified? If not, any standouts on the results.

    Race was rained out

No runoffs, as showers kept wetting down the track. Couple of us got sideways on shifts and launches. Greg Jones and wife really busted their butts to put on as good a show as they could, too bad it was such a low car count (24, I think). Only 11 stayed there for the final day, e.t. numbers got a little mixed up, so some matches would have been meaningless.

Rain would have been appreciated Friday as it was unearthly hot and humid. Most everyone loaded up early and hit it back to the hotel to cool off. Cars were running about 0.2-0.3 off.

Track was good, except for a very scary, short shut down area. We were warned about that, still hairy. Don't even think about a 3rd pass with drum brakes. One Super Bee got in the grass when he tried that.

Jim Spetzman was fastest, Detweiler was right behind him. Neither of those cars seemed to be bothered by the heat and humidity...???

Gold T37 is Dan Jensen's car, used to be Glasgo's. 2 Max wedges made the long trip, sounded and looked awesome.

    NO BUICKS SHOWED UP.

Sure is tough to get this Spring race going.

I just missed you guys. I got there at 12:30pm sat, called Gregg (blacksheep from ROP) and he filled me in on the abbreviated activites. So I headed 15 minutes south to his place and picked up my 70 F-85 parts car.

Dave-What was Detweiler running? I saw the video of him running the Chevelle and it looked like he got out of it way before the line as he ran a 12.86 at only 100 MPH.

I'll be lucky to run faster than him at Martin with no tuning on the car.

I'm off to do some more wrenching. This is going to be right down to the wire.

That was 108.64 mph on the speed for Daryl if my glass are working. Thanks for the update.

Darrell's car was humming. Haven't seen that video, but the track was wet on Saturday and we all had some hairy rides. I went a little sideways when I hit each gear. You shouldn't run up against him as he's in Factory Stock and you're in FAST, right? Maybe you can egg him into a grudge race, but be careful, be very careful. That car is getting wicked. His 4 speed car was fast, but redlights and missed shifts that bugged him are gone with this one.

Should be enough cars such that they don't mix the two again. Might be interesting, though to match up the fastest Factory Stock and the fastest FAST cars. JJ made it to the finals at Lebanon Musclepalooza. :TU:   :beer :beer

Always a lot of thrashing. If it runs bring it on. That's the beauty of 2/3 match races. I'm nowhere near where we'll be yet either, but I'll be there again. Just lower in the pack.

I guess I need new contacts. :) Looked again and it was indeed 108.

It would be kinda neat running Detweiler's W30 but with no tuning I'm afraid I might get embarassed. Make for a nice shot coming off the line anyway.

Nice looking car he has I must say. First I have seen pics of it.

Motor is in along with the alternator, power steering and AC. Trans goes in tomorrow.

Still waiting for Pypes exhaust and Ultra Flows.

btw-What did you get out of the Ramrod in the heat and humidity Dave?

Ramrod still has cobwebs. I think 13.99 was fastest.

That was the shortest shut down I have ever seen. Thank goodness for disk brakes. I wish more cars would have showed, but nothing you can do about that. Thanks Greg for hosting an event in June.

I'm with you there, Noel. I was looking at some of the serious cars that were coming in as we were leaving. How in the world do they stop in time?

I was able to make the first turn with my drum brakes on my first runs with some heavy pedaling, but no way on my secondrun and went all the way to the end. (Also with serious pedalling). Car was running way too hot to get a third run in. That probably would have been in the creek, or at least in the grass like the one Super Bee.

    Thanks again, Greg.

The Merc ran a best 13.45 then a 13.35 @ 104 on Friday. Seems the 4.86 gear swap worked. I was suprised to get that on such a miserable hot humid day. Saturday was slick and on one pass, just prior to stopping the action, I considered turning on the wipers!

The heater was on high to keep the car as cool as possible and made three passes at a time. The brakes smelled after though because it is a shorter shut down and the Merc needed it all.

    Good time. :TU:

Had a great time as well

Thanks to Greg for trying to put on a June event :TU: Even though I didn't get to take the car out I still had fun hanging out and BSing w/ everyone. Quaker Steak and Lube is, as usually always, an EXCELLENT place to eat :beer. Saw some cool Edsel's there :eek2: (ya I said cool and Edsel in the same sentence). Thanks to Tim and Rhonda for the ride there (dummy me forgot to tell ya 'til now). Can't wait for Stanton now.

I think the needed help would be financial. Nice of you to offer to cover that. :bglasses:

That's cool Donny. I talked with Greg and he said it was not out of the question at that time.

If he does though he said he'll have a date very early and do a pre register to protect himself.

    Not bad ideas at all.

I think preregistration in the middle of the winter is the only way to go to get one of these going.
