Quote: (Tommy Ivo) "If one engine is good, then four fire-breathin' Buicks ought to be terrific." Engines are connected in tandem...right ones driving the rear, left ones the front. The 1720 HP vehicle features (4) 454-inch Buick engines using C-T chromed stroked cranks, Isky cams, Jahns pistons, stock rods and Hilborn injectors. Vehicle weight 3555. Pretty creative for 1961....:eek2:
Mickey In todays market, I would say there is $800 to $ 1000 just in valve covers in the picture! Bill
Hey Bill, Yeah, it's kinda scary to look at the ads, too. Example: C-T stroker kit with hard-chrome crank for $355 including pistons, rings, rods, bearings...assembled, pin-fitted, aligned and balanced. Good 'ole days. Ooops, wait a minute...my gross monthly income was about $350. Hmmm...
This seems to be one sweet ride. That quote by Tommy Ivo is definetely true. I wish I was alive in 1961 to see this awesome machine do its thing.
I have an 8MM movie of Ivo's 4 engine car running at Stanton. It was back in the late 60s. I was running a Cadillac powered Model T roadster pick up back then. :bglasses: :bglasses: :bglasses:
Hey Ken, Actually the article states 454...keep in mind we're talking "bored AND stroked". Yep...they're nailheads. Another "$" comment: Car value at the time...$13,000 Ivo hired Don Prudhomme to "apply his master touch and finish the hauler in glistening red paint". Car used a single 24-foot red/white/blue chute for stopping.:eek2:
He sure knew how to make a nailhead engine run. And that monstrous paracute, wow. I guess it needed a lot of stopping power, of course it did, it was Buick powered.
