Good Day folks. I will be swapping out my rear soon and it makes sense to update the springs and shocks while all is apart. I wanted to get some feedback on recommended types of shocks. Not going to be doing any heavy racing or the such, just a car to enjoy with the family. Thanks for the recommendations in advance. Cheers Steve
KYB Gas-A-just Great band for the buck. Have had them on many street duty cars and have always been happy.
Steve, Since you will have the rear axle out...replace all 8 bushings for the trailing arms....I use Monroe Gas-Matics and never had a problem with them
NAPA Shocks NS5802 Rear: https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?A=NS_5802_0131629468&An=0 NS5804 Front: https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?A=NS_5804_0117639185&An=0 I agree as to changing out all the bushings and that while you have it out, might as well do the coil springs also.
KYB's will run much tighter than Monroe's. It depends on what you are looking for. I've had both and found the Monroe's to be too mushy especially over dips in the road.
I bought all the original style GM shocks I could find through the national parts locating service. I do have a couple extras
Further recomendations? Good day all, I just purchased a '69 GS that's riding too low in the back. I apprecaite aseeing all the recomendations for shocks. Anyone have a good idea which springs to install to give it a bit more attitude (and altitude) than stock springs. All help is greatly appreciated ~ Steve
Re: Further recomendations? Moog 5413 will be about 1/4" higher than stock, cargo coils CC501 will give about 1/2" lift, and 6435 will be about an inch higher.
Re: Further recomendations? Check out this thread http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=234403 and look at post # 8 & post # 9. That should help you out as far as springs. Good luck :TU:
