reciever dryer with 134 sticker

I have bought a reciever dryer from year one. I intend to use R12, as i have access to plenty. The one they sent me has a label "for 134 systems". they didn't mention anything about it being for 134 on the web site where i bought it, and had another they specified was for 134. So beings this is a r12 system one would assume that this particular piece is for r12, because it was not specified as being for 134. grrrrrrr.....

Here is my question.... what in the world would make it for specific to 134? last i knew manufacturers didn't pre oil them. unless it contains oil for 134, I don't see a reason not to use it. Correct me if i am wrong?

They more than likely used 134 to pressure test it. Just pull a deep vacuum on the system and you'll be good. The two main things that matter are the poa valve and the txv. The txv mainly because it is filled with either 12 or 134A. Which responds to the refrigerant (of your choice) to meter refrigerant flow in the AC system. Hope this helps. :)

Yup, that what i was thinking. that's all it really does is hold decicant. That was one of the few deals year one had. I actually couldn't find a receiver dryer that cheap anywhere else.... or at all hardly. 28 bucks... if it bolts up we are in business.

All the sticker means is that the R/D contains the newer (XH?) type desiccant that is compatible with R134a. It is also backward compatible with R12, much like the green orings.
There were some potential issues with the old R12 desiccant if used with R134a, so an old stock R/D would not be used with R134a. A bit of a moot point these days, I wouldn't use a 20+ year old R/D in any system due to age.
