Rearview mirror bulb

I am trying to replace the bulb in the rearview mirror on my 69 GS400 convertible. The plastic bulb holder is very brittle so I don't want to work it too hard. Is there a release, or just a hard pull to get the socket out?

First you need to remove the clear lens from the grey holder. Then you need to gently squeeze in the middle of the grey holder where the lens was before you removed. Sometimes prying with a tiny screwdriver while removing the lens or squeezing the grey holder helps. Are you sure the bulb is NG? I think the bulb might only light if the headlights are on...I forget.

There is no bulb in it. I ran a test light and it looks like it comes on when the door is open and when the headlights are on.
Now that you mention that lens, any idea where I can get one? Mine is missing.

The map light mirror plugs into the ACC which has power when the key is in Acc mode or the ing is activated. As Frank said it has nothing to do with the doors.

I might have had the key in ACC when I was testing the power, so will have to try again. I was mostly interested in the power feed being active before doing a bunch of work. I did get the grey bulb holder out. Now I can use some help with the bulb number. It must be a tube type bulb that fits into the two ends of the holder.
I looked at the lens on ebay, and that should work.

That gray light housing works only on acc or ign. It slides abt 1/4" to the right to turn on, back to left for off.

Anyone know the bulb number? Since there wasn't one in the holder I don't know what it looks like.

I got the bulb, and everything is working as it should. The light is powered in the ACC or IGN positions. The lens looks and works well. Thanks. Now i need to start another thread about the interior light on the driver side. Where it is mounted is behind the air duct, so is largely blocked.
