When I removed the top from my 68 GS the rear tacking strip was held in place by galvanized lag bolts. The holes are 5/16". Is this correct? Is the rear held to the body with lag bolts? My brain says no and the holds are now too large. Brain wants to install nutcerts for strength. Any advise is welcome and appreciated.

    I believe that’s correct.
    My 67 is that way
I bought a new tack strip years ago and the holes were the correct size for the lag bolt.

I had a new top professionally installed last fall and they didn’t mention any issues.

Are you talking about the trim stick? That is held in with two special shouldered bolts. Very tough to install with the new top. definitely want to have pro do the top.
