For my 71 Skylark custom. Cant figure out how the rear bench or back rests come out. Cant see any bolts. I pulled off the quarter skins, but they dont pull off all the way. Dont wanna break anything. Need to pull it for rust proofing, and easy carpet installation. As well as to help make and install custom covers. Any help appreciated. Thanks
The seat bottom hooks to the floor in the middle on each side. You have to push down and back towards the trunk to unlatch it, then lift it out. The seat back has 2 bolts(?) that needs to come out then it lifts off. HTH
I have found over the years that having a guy on each side of the rear seat and having both push in at the bottom at the same time makes the lower part pop up easier. It is easier with the front seats out as there is more room.
- Thanks a million guys that REALLY makes my life easier. Will get to the job this weekend. Only question is, the seat comes out first right? And then the back rest? Thanks
Got my rear seat out today, thought id share an update. The hardest part was getting the bottom of the seat out, and "pushing down and back" to pop it from the clips. However, i used a trick that i thought id share, that makes it super easy. I took a pair of needle nose pliers (cuz of the triangular shape) and i hammered it in under the lil clip. As the Pliers got further in, the clip got higher and higher and eventually popped off. Saved me alot of greif, i was surprised at how light they were. Thanks for all ur help, HUGELY appreciated.
I just removed my back original bench seat, 1971 GS (2 door) Indeed I used a crow bar to push back on the seat spring type (Attached to the seat) connected to the floor. The drivers side was easy. The recommendation of removal, and how it is in the previous post was excellent. HELP: Now I'm having trouble with the back seat back rest verticle mounted padding.(Second part of rear bench seat) I looked at it by opening the trunk, but still can't figure how it comes out. The goal or mission this time is to replace the back cardboard section I bought from year one. Not sure what you call this cardboard piece other than I would call it a "cardboard speaker deck package "? I need to get the foam strip provided with the cardboard under the rear back seat. Still can't figure how it comes out. Thanks Scott
Easier on the rear seat. Remove the two screws, 7/16" hex heads at the base. Now, push the upper section about 5-6" from the top towards the trunk/rear window with your left hand and use your right hand to lift up. The hooks on the back support are wider at the base than at the top so this prevents the seat from easily lifting up. I attached a pic showing the hook. There are 3 of them so you have to repeat the process for each one.
Oh yea! I see the two screws @ the base! Yahoo! That should do it! Yippppppeeeeeeee! http://www.streamaudio.com/stations...n=KFOG_FM&Mac=No&OptIn=&Streamtype=&filename= Sun's going down, I'll get on it now! Thanks George and whoever! Scott
