    Jim,
Have you ever driven a car powered by a 307:laugh: They literally drop dead at 3500 RPM stock. Low compression, crappy heads, and no cam. It's a gutless pig:grin:

If you had one bad lifter then the rest are probably NOT far behind that one. I would say the camshaft is wiped out with this info given.

Just remember we are all here to help and you really can buy and do what you want and or think you need to do. Good luck on the multi issues and will keep trying to help. Jim

If & when you redo the rear,go get an 8.5" 10-bolt.Dependiong on what your engine plans are(exactly),I would get a 3:42 or 3:73. If you can find an ex-police car Caprice or Roadmaster from the early 90's,you might score all of it at once. There is still a lot of that stuff here.

    BWINN519,
It looks like your 68 still has the original 8.2" 10-bolt.That type of rear gives you the option of a 3:55 gear, unlike the 8.5" 10-bolt.Do you have any plans on taking it to the track,or upping the power? If so,you might want to consider the 8.5" with a 3:42.

"Dog" worst then i thought, an 8.2. Only general driveing, some highway but mostly around town cruiseing. Doubt, if ever,of doing any track runs. Just got off the phone not 15 minutes ago, about to go look at a 12 bolt posi unit, out of a 65 GTO, 10 min. away and for ($500). "Damage ring an pinion" but has eaton posi unit, and all complete. Will it fit or is it worth it, ?

Well, thats ok guys. the 12 bolt i went out too look at, was trashed. In a 10 second race car, with leaf springs, and totally busted up

Ok i'm back at it again with my stupid rear end questions, Hows this one sound to you all and will it fit my 68 skylark, ( "74 El-camino, used 10 bolt posi rear out of 1974 SS el-camino. has a 2:73 ratio . complete from drum to drum. i drove this BBC elcamino and the posi worked perfect") what do ya'll think, will it fit ?

The 73-77 A-body rears will not fit.How far are you from Rustburg or Lynchburg VA.I have a friend that lives down there."Maybe" I could get him to haul a rear down next time he comes up this way.I just don't know when that would be.Shipping wouldn't be that bad though. No more than $125.00 to freight it to a terminal.

Just saw this info as I refresh my self on the thread:

Brian, this is NOT an option for him. The 1968-1970 Buick rears do not have any aftermarket support EXCEPT from Brad at Fabcraft Metal Works-3.42 or 3.64 we can supply for a little while till they are gone.

Price is still up there at 459.00 per set...BUT they are COMPLETELY ALL AMERICAN MADE FROM START TO FINISH...THAT IS A GOOD THING. THEY ARE WELL BUILT AND SET UP VERY WELL.

No 3.55 that is a pontiac gear NOT a buick gear 10 bolt 8.2.

Again just so all the correct info is out on the table.

So what's my options, not raceing or takeing to the track, just around town cruiseing and most of all when the time comes burn both rear tires up at will: Trash the 8.2 and find a complete 10 or 12 bolt posi ? Can the gusz of a 10 or 12 posi even fit in a 8.2 size houseing or gotta get a new houseing and all ? Sorry, but really dum at car rear ends !!
