Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with an answer for a problem I've run into trying to change my rear disc pads on my 01 Eldorado. I've removed my rear caliper assembly, but when I tried to move the caliper piston reward to facilatate the installation of the new pads, it's not moving. I'm using a large c-clamp on it. I didn't open the brake fluid resevoir and remove any fluid, might this be the problem? Or does GM have another procedure for this system? The car has the abs, stability and traction control system. I put the old pads back for the time being, but now I have traction control, and abs light on, on the dash. Brakes appear to be working normally otherwise. I remember having this same problem on my 98 Riviera, but I ended up trading it in. Can't afford to do that again. LOL. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Clair McLean. P.S. Am a long time Buick Riviera guy, currently own a 68 Riviera, and a 99 Silver Arrow.
Generally the rear calipers are turned (screwed) back in with a special tool. They usually don't push back in. hope this helps
Have a good friend in Florida that was a GM tech at a Cadillac dealer until recently and also a very serious racer/restorer. Has been blessed with Olds blood in his veins, but that's another story. His name is Dan Macal and is on wwww.realoldspower.com as DrDan. I'm sure he'll help you. :bglasses:
Ditto what Jim said...this pistons have to be rotated in order to relax into the bores. Here you go in living color: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forum...t-rear-brake-pad-replacement-photographs.html Devon
Thanks to all that answered my thread. I got the tool that threads in the piston. Worked excellent. thanks again. Clair McLean.
