Rarest PS SA car?

    Mike Wowk Who freakin' cares?

Which PS or SA racer has the rarest, lowest production figure car? Not talking clones, or breaking down to color or combonation of options. I would say breaking it down to model, engine, trans would be far enough.

For a P/S car I have to go with the blue 429 Torino that showed up at Stanton a couple of times. Said to be a really rare car.

    Not fast, but rare.

The guy with the white convertable Impala 427 SS has a very very rare car, not even considering it has every available option

It's probably the '71 Torino Brougham with the 429CJ 4-speed with 2 made.

    Dan Jensen's T-37 is one of 6, I think.

I would bet the '66 Bonnie with the 421HO 4-speed is up there too.

Production figures for SS427 ragtops don't exist, but I don't think they're anywhere near the top of the list.

Henry's '71 440+6 'Cuda convertible has to rank right up there near the top. 1 of 17 built, 9(?) w/ an automatic. Probably the only one that isn't Shakered:Do No:

When my Runner finally debuts next year it will be up there.

Holy Cow! I can't believe it! A thread involving production figures where a Studebaker figure is actually higher than the others!

Ted Harbit's little Regal Red 1963 Lark 2-door, "The Stude Tomato" we run at Stanton, is one of 47 cars so built. That model is officially a 1963 Studebaker Lark Custom 2-door (63V-F6), equipped with factory-installed R2 supercharged engine and 4-speed manual transmission. I scanned the production records for 1963 Studebakers with Avanti engines (other than Avantis, of course), and that's the number on a quick read for that combination. (Might be one or two I missed, but doubtful.)

By the way, The Stude Tomato still has its original engine in it.

The Plain Brown Wrapper, the 1964 Challenger 2-door with R3 engine, is a clone, and has always been represented as such.

Studebaker built only ONE 1964 "Lark" with the premium-power R3 engine. Those of you who have thoroughly read your August 2004 Hemmings Muscle Machines have hopefully seen the report on that beautiful Strato Blue car.

Nelson Bove, the car's owner, has attended The Pure Stock Drags as part of the Studebaker gang several times. However, "Nels" would not consider running the car at Stanton because we know it has its original engine in it. That would be just too risky, possibly damaging the original engine in a genuine, documented "one-off" car of that significance.

    Cheers. BP
