I have a 1968 Buick electra 225, how do you refill the fluid in the reservoir? Please drop me a line ASAP, thanks Floyd. TheEquineFencer@AOL.com

    Hello,
On the pump/motor assembly one end is the reservoir and it has a rubber plug in it, you can remove the plug and check or refill the system through it, the fluid level should to be to the bottom of the hole. You can use Dextron III automatic transmission fluid and the level should be (if possible) checked with the top in the down position.

    Cheers!

Is this the same for a 65 Skylark? When I'm raising the top, my top motor runs for about 10 seconds before the top begins to move, then everything works fine. I'm wondering if I'm low on fluid, but didn't know how to check.

    Thanks in advance, Keith

There is a specific procedure for this outlined in the Fisher Body Manual. According to the manual it virtually eliminates the spillage of fluid and works like a charm as I used this method way back when I owned converts. You need a fabricate a rubber plug that fits in the filler hole. With top in up positon take out existing plug and replace with fabricated plug/nipple .(You need to make a hole in the plug and put a matal nipple in the hole). attach 5/32" hose about five feet long to nipple and put other end in full transmission fluid bottle. Bottle should be below level of pump on low part of trunk floor. now operate top to the down positon. After top is fully lowered continue to operate pump for 15 to 20 seconds or until noise level is reduced. Now operate top up and down several times or until operation is consistant and smooth in both up and down cycles and now further air bubbles are exhausted in container(glass jar may be better than trans bottle for this). With top in the down postion remove fabricated plug/nipple adapter from reservoir. Fluid level should be 1/4" from lower edge of of hole with top down. replace original plug. Many cars tops never work correctly and this should restore proper use. Let me know if it works. Also place rags or paper towels under pump whem doing this to collect oopses.
