Race Helmet Requirements

I need to know what the regulations are on wearing a helmet when racing. I didn't have one in Milan, and no one gave me crap about it. But the inspections weren't all that stringent either.

I won't be running any faster than 14 seconds, unless a miracle happens.

If I do need one, do you recommend a vendor?

    Thanks!!!:beer

I would wear one if I were you. You NEVER know what can happen. If not your car, the one next to you could accidentally slam into you. And if you're bracket racing a fast car, he can easily come by you at the end at 100+ mph.

There is a place on ebay in Oregon that sells brand new helmets that are DOT and Snell2000 compliant for anywhere from $39 to $89. I think these are 2002-2003 helmets that they buy in bulk from distributors and sell on ebay. I just got one there. I'll try and find it again and post one of their listings. Helmets come in a variety of sizes and colors. They have just about everything you could want.

    OK, I found it. Here's the helmet I bought.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...6749&item=2453452821&sspagename=STRK:MEBWN:IT

This helmet is a M2R MR1000. It's nice because it has a removeable inner liner so it can be washed if it get too sweaty. The guy there to talk to is Randy and he is real nice to talk to. If you email him and ask for his number you can call and talk to him and get his opinion on what you might need and size because each manufacturer is a little different. I didn't choose the cheapest helmet. But hey, it is my head.

Just click on seller's current auctions to see what he has. Make sure you know what size melon you have. Here's a good chart for that too:

    Good luck.

Go to a motorcycle shop and try on a few different brands first. The all fit a little differently. This will also give you a feel for what size to buy. Then buy a snell 95 or 2000, those are the later models and are nearly universal in acceptance by motorsports organizations, at least until you really get into the big leagues.

I hope this is what I need. It's pretty snug fitting.... I followed the directions on the website for measurements and brand sizes....is it normal for a snug fit?

can you use dirtbike or snomobile style helmets with snell and dot approval?

I'd have more use for one for a dirtbike.

I believe this gentleman on ebay sells ALL kinds of helmets. And the prices are great.

Yes, the helmet should have a snug fit. Then if you smack something the helmet will help absorb the impact, not provide another impact from being too loose and letting your melon bounce around inside.

By the way, the helmet looks good. Now just get a chrome shield for that evil look.:af:
