Great advice, and I actually am running one now - it's a 750 cfm 7041304 service replacement carb for a 66 425 on a "Doc Mod" manifold. I also built a 800 CFM carb using a 7043240 body and airhorn with a 67 base. So far, it actually doesnt seem to make the car any faster, but I havent had time to really dial it in like the 66 carb. I'm also building a 79 "2nd gen" 240 carb to try out, but havent gotten the body and airhorn back from plating yet. I like the adjustable APT carbs, I built a 76 for my Stage1 car and it flies (when the car is running!) I love the Q-Jets and wont switch back until I have to run pure stock. But the AFB's (I rebuilt 2 with different jetting depending whether I was running a DM manifold or not) I have both ran great with terrific throttle response. They were at least a 10th slower, leaked like hell and I didnt like the way they looked but all in all not a bad carb either.
Waiting until I've got the square bore manifold on......however, I still have that interference problem with the secondary rod I havent figured out yet. Gotta get my head wrapped around it, but it's behind the Pontiac brakes, Stage 1 cam timing, pure stock AFB set up and Tom's rockers...we'll get there though.
