...or D/A sander anyhow. Bodyman looked it over tonight and says he can start ASAP. So as soon as we get home from the Nat's were gonna tear it apart and get it to him next weekend. Says he'll have it back to me in.....GET THIS 2 MONTHSo No: Is it possible for a body man to start and finish a car without pushing it to the back of the shop to collect bondo dust for a year or two?
Doesn't it all depend on what is being done? What is being done? If it's just getting the old paint off and sanding, that does seem like a lot-I mean, isn't that the type of job you start and get through in a week or less? Seems to me to do that it would be a matter of days. but it will all be worth it right?
The guys who are doing it are really good. I know cars that have been done by them and they are PERFECT. These guys let each coat of primer dry for a week before they will block it down. He says just the wet sanding and buffing after it's done takes them close to a week:TU: If it's anywhere as nice as the other cars they've done I think we'll all be impressed.
That's the way to do it .... the right way ! A 2 month turn-around is GREAT ! So many guys get their cars snagged up in Body Shop Prison ...... Even if it stretches out to 3 months, I still think that is good. Have fun at the Nats ! I've got a 440-6PK motor that HAS to go together this weekend, AND get broken in, so I can't even go for the day on Saturday .... bummer .... :ball:
It get's loaded on the trailer tonight and I am going to pressure wash the bottom to remove any road grime before I drop it off Friday night.
We want progress pics!!!!! Can't wait to see it even though I'll have to get used to seeing you in another car. Kept doing a "double take" every time they would mention Pete and his 1970 Burnt Orange RR at the Mopar Nats.:Comp:
Dropped the R/T off this mornin' :TU: I wonder how many cars Tom will buy and sell in the time it takes me to get this one painted?o No:
And the interior. Nice steering wheel! By the way..........what's wrong with B5 Bright Blue Metallic???? I'm kinda partial to that color!:Brow:
You can see the hole in the floor for the floor shifter has never been cut. This really was a goofy optioned R/T. Column shifted auto without a buddy seat arm rest. Yet he checked the power steering and power drum brakes. 3.23 open rear and stripe delete. No vinyl top or belt line molding. It's the first R/T I have ever seen without beltline mouldings. Hell I thought they were manditory. You can see the new drivers side floor patch. They did a good job fitting it from another car. Once we grind the weld it should totally disapear.
Body man sanded down the drivers front fender and deceided the whole car needs to be stripped. He has 3 gallons of stripper on the way Wed. Next progress report on Sunday.
Part of the car is stripped. MAN AM I GLAD I DIDN"T ATTEMPT IT MYSELF. The car had it's original Burgandy, Primer, Brown paint, Primer, Multiple layers of skim coats of bondo then some dark blue and then the layer of medium blue you see in the picture. The freakin' car is gonna be 40 pounds lighter after it's stripped:shock: Good news is the sheet metal is 100% rust free:TU:
Or............ Just let Casey or Dan drive it..........there's another 80#.......... (And you wonder why Rob drove my car for years.)
