    Thanks

If you have the cash for a new part...try www.agrsteering.com. A complete bolt in and 12:1 steer ratio. No mix and matching of parts. About 300 bones though. :(

Late model Jeep Grand Cherokee, you will need to adapt your hoses to the metric box fittings.

OUCH!! $359 for a 12-1 steering box from AGR Steering. I'm sure that's plus shipping. I thought you could get one for a Camaro or Firebird and it would fit?

It will, but there is one thing you have to modify and I just can't remember what it is... let me see if I can find where I read it...

This is what Hot Rod says... from an article about a 70GS

"We walked away convinced the single greatest modification A-body owners can make is to install a close-ratio steering box, like a second-gen T/A WS6 box as done here It bolts in easily, should be readily available at a junkyard near you, and at a little more than two turns lock-to-lock, makes what is a large car by todays standards feel as controllable as something decades newer."

And here is a huge article about it (its for Oldsmobile A-Bodies but it should apply)

    I've always heard

The bugaboo is getting the internal stops set up right.

Because the geometry of the steering systems are different, you can end up with not enough travel and a huge turning radius, or too much travel and tires rubbing on stuff that should be left alone.

But then I've never done this swap. Maybe someday. I kind of like the "old car wallow" though.....

BUt then again, if you dont want to screw around with it, then AGR may be the way to go.

Thanks for the info guys, I decided to go with an 86 Monte SS "sport steering" box. 12.7:1 ratio, 2.75 turns lock to lock. Internal stops are the same, I installed it today, the only mod was to use the 69's pitman arm. Seems to fit and function fine. I will be using the Monte's power steering box, so metric adaptors aren't needed.

Right on Chris. You'll be amazed at how responsive it is compared to the stock unit. Keep me posted.

Now you have to bring it to Vegas in October!
